The Carabao Cup quarter-final draw is scheduled for Wednesday, 28 October, with Everton and Newcastle United facing an unusual situation: their fourth-round tie takes place a day later, so neither club will have qualified when the draw begins.
The draw is expected to take place at around 10:20 pm GMT, depending on Liverpool’s match against Chelsea, which kicks off at 8:00 pm. Extra time or a penalty shootout could delay it.
Carabao Cup quarter-final draw: start time and TV channel
Sky Sports presenter Dave Jones is expected to host the draw, alongside former Liverpool player Conor Coady and former Chelsea defender Graeme Le Saux, according to the EFL’s draw announcement.
UK viewers can watch on Sky Sports, and subscribers can stream it through the Sky Go app. The Evening Standard will also provide live coverage through its sports blog.
Liverpool vs Chelsea will be shown on ITV1 as well as Sky Sports, but the draw itself is listed on Sky Sports. The match length will determine when the draw can begin, so treat 10:20 pm as an estimate, not the confirmed start time.
Why Everton and Newcastle share a ball number
Everton host Newcastle at 7:45 pm GMT on Thursday, 29 October. As the draw takes place the previous evening, the two clubs will share one entry, with the winner of their tie progressing to the quarter-finals.
The Evening Standard’s published draw list assigns the tie ball number three. The other entries are:
- Bournemouth or Aston Villa
- Bradford City or Peterborough United
- Everton or Newcastle United
- Fleetwood Town or Arsenal
- Fulham or Crystal Palace
- Liverpool or Chelsea
- Manchester City or Brighton & Hove Albion
- Sunderland or Brentford
The fourth round also guarantees at least one League One side in the last eight, as Bradford City host Peterborough United. Fleetwood Town, the lowest-ranked club remaining in the competition, face Arsenal. Six of the eight ties feature Premier League clubs.
