One of the most keenly-anticipated moves in youth football this summer is set to be completed on transfer deadline day.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Celtic have reached an agreement with Chelsea for a loan move for Shumaira Mheuka.

The 19-year-old is set to spend the 2026-27 season in Glasgow for his first sustained taste of senior football.

He follows the likes of Reggie Walsh, Jesse Derry, Genesis Antwi, Ryan Kavuma-McQueen, Kaiden Wilson, and Harrison Murray-Campbell in moving from the Blues' youth ranks after a fine season in the Premier League 2 (PL2).

Mheuka will play for Celtic for the 2026-27 season on a straight loan without an option to buy, bolstering the attacking options available to Martin O'Neill.

The teenager will be useful as Celtic look to navigate a demanding schedule, with UEFA Europa League football to contend with in addition to their domestic engagements.

Long-Term Commitment: Why Chelsea Tied Down Mheuka Until 2033

Prior to sanctioning a loan switch for him, Chelsea made sure to hand a new contract to Mheuka, ensuring that he remains on their books until 2033.

Before his new deal, the youngster had just one year left on his contract, although the club held an option to extend by a further 12 months.

The Blues identified Mheuka as a 14-year-old, snapping him up from Brighton & Hove Albion for an initial  £1 million fee.

He has risen through the ranks at Cobham rapidly, captaining their U-21 team in PL2 and their U-19 team in the UEFA Youth League last season.

The youngster was named as the Player of the Season in PL2 at the end of the title-winning campaign.

He made his senior debut aged 17 in the 2024-25 season, and has gone on to play eight more games for the Blues, including a Carabao Cup semi-final against Arsenal.

At Chelsea, Mheuka is viewed as a central figure in their long-term project, and his loan move was engineered to get him prepared for a starring role at Stamford Bridge.

He scored 18 goals in 19 Premier League 2 games last season and five goals in six UEFA Youth League games.
