Anyone who watched Chelsea's academy in the last two years would agree that a good number of their players are ripe for senior football, even if not at Stamford Bridge.

The Blues have taken an important step with right-back Genesis Antwi, as journalist Peter O'Rourke has reported an impending loan move to Strasbourg.

The 19-year-old will join the fellow BlueCo-owned club for the 2026-27 season before returning to England.

Sweden youth international Antwi has excelled at youth football and is set to join Jesse Derry and Harrison Murray-Campbell in leaving the shores of England for the 2026-27 season.

Who is Genesis Antwi?

Genesis Antwi was born and brought up in Sweden until he was seven years old, before moving to England with his parents.

He has been on Chelsea's books since joining them as an U-12 when he was 11 years old.

The versatile full-back rose through the ranks at Cobham, quickly establishing himself as one of the top prospects at the club.

Former Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca handed him his professional debut in the UEFA Conference League at just 17 years old in the 2024-25 season.

He went on to make another appearance in the competition, but has yet to feature for the senior team since then.

Antwi signed a professional contract with the Blues after he turned 17 in 2025, keeping him tied to the club until 2028, at least.

The club retains the option to extend his deal by two years, potentially keeping him on their books until 2030.

Why Strasbourg Is The Right Next Step For Genesis Antwi

Antwi has dominated at youth level, with his blistering pace often too much for opponents to deal with.

It was common sight in Chelsea academy games in the last two seasons to see the Swedish youngster breeze past opposition as though they were training cones before delivering a dangerous cross to create a chance or shoot on his own.

A move to France will expose the youngster to the rigours of senior football against more physical opposition and put his abilities to the test.

The pathway at Stamford Bridge is presently not very clear, with Reece James, Malo Gusto, and new signing Marco Palestra all ahead of him at right-back.

Antwi will hope to learn from the impressive Guela Doue at Strasbourg, playing as back-up to the Ivorian.

He will also look to emulate the likes of Andrey Santos and Mike Penders by impressing in France and earning a place at Chelsea, afterwards.
