Brazilian Serie A club Corinthians have announced the appointment of former Netherlands international and AC Milan midfielder Clarence Seedorf as their new manager.

Corinthians confirmed that the 50-year-old coach had signed a contract until the end of 2027.

The Sao Paulo-based club are currently struggling in the Brazilian top-flight and they find themselves in a fight against the drop.

Corinthians occupy the 16th position in the Serie A table and they are just above the relegation zone with a superior goal difference above Internacional.

What Clarence Seedorf Said About Taking Charge of Corinthians

Following the announcement on Sunday, Seedorf said he faced a huge responsibility to help Corinthians maintain their top-flight status.

The seven-time Brazilian league champions have eight matches remaining to secure their top-flight status.

“Taking on this challenge is an honour, but also a huge responsibility. I am here to give my all and build a team that fights for every ball, every minute, every victory,” Seedorf told the club website.

Corinthians president Osmar Stabile is counting on Seedorf's experience to help Timão move the club away from the relegation zone.

"It's a great joy to be able to count on a professional of Seedorf's caliber,” Stabile said.

“We made our choice based on the work profile we envision for Corinthians, and I'm sure that he and his coaching staff will help us overcome this more delicate moment in the Brazilian Championship.”

Corinthians will be Seedorf's fifth managerial appointment, following previous spells at AC Milan, Shenzhen FC, Deportivo La Coruna and the Cameroon national team.

When Will Clarence Seedorf Make His Corinthians Debut?

Seedorf was not on the bench as Corinthians suffered a 4-1 defeat against high-flying Palmeiras in a Serie A derby on Sunday.

Seedorf is expected to arrive in Sao Paulo in the coming days, with interim coach William Batista overseeing the team until then.

Seedorf’s first challenge will take place on October 19 when Corinthians welcome Vitoria to the Corinthians Arena.

The Dutch coach will work with former Manchester United players Memphis Depay and Jesse Lingard at Corinthians.
