The race is on for EFL Championship clubs to seal Premier League promotion but for their attackers, they are also gunning for this season's Golden Boot. Some players truly put their names up in lights when they finish the campaign at the top of the goalscoring charts.
Take for example, Sammie Szmodics who bagged 27 goals in the 2023-24 campaign despite Blackburn Rovers narrowly avoiding relegation. Personal glory is at stake and with it comes the opportunity to perhaps put yourself in the shop window.
That said, it's often a promoted side whose prolific striker not only fires them to the top-flight but also claims the Golden Boot. With West Ham United and Wolverhampton Wanderers among the clubs competing in this season's Championship, the battle to finish as top scorer makes for an enthralling one.
Current Top Five EFL Championship Goalscorers
Leading the way is Southampton striker Cyle Larin who has bagged seven goals in as many games since the start of the season. The Canadian has been in red-hot form and has even hit two braces in wins over Millwall (5-1) and Bristol City (4-1).
Will Lankshear of Middlesbrough is behind Larin in second place and that's an interesting duel of sorts given last season's Spygate controversy. The former Tottenham Hotspur frontman has managed six goals in seven games, including the winner in a 1-0 win over Queens Park Rangers.
There are three players sitting third, including West Ham United's Jarrod Bowen who is viewed as the best player currently in the second-tier of English football. He is joined on four goals in seven games by Millwall forward Lyndon Dykes while Norwich City's Mohamed Toure has scored as many in one game less.
