Egypt have wrapped up their 2025 AFCON group stages with a goalless draw against Angola on Monday.

The Pharaohs had already secured qualification heading into the game having grabbed wins over Zimbabwe and South Africa.

Meanwhile, Angola had slim chances of making it through to the next round with a draw and a defeat in their opening games.

As a result, Egypt head coach Hossam Hassan decided to rotate his squad allowing a number of his star players to get some rest.

Mohamed Salah, Yasser Ibrahim, and former Aston Villa winger Mahmoud Trezeguet all started on the bench.

The game had a slow start as the opening minutes saw both sides struggle to find a breakthrough before Angola had a big chance after 11 minutes.

A response from Egypt came in the 20th minute as Mostafa Mohamed's bicycle kick into the box was met with Hossam Abdelmaguid's header. The latter's effort however, was high and off target.

Angola's best chance of the game came before the break when their skipper, Fredy Ribeiro, went through on goal, but his shot went inches wide.

Two minutes later, Ribeiro attempted a powerful strike from distance and forced a good save from Mostafa Shobeir.

In the second half, the Diabos Vermelhos piled more pressure on Egypt and had another great opportunity to break the deadlock.

Next, Egypt stay in Agadir and prepare to face a third-placed side from Group A, C or D on Monday (16:00 GMT). Meanwhile, the Pharaohs will learn their opponents once the group stage ends on Wednesday.

As a result of the simultaneous finale, South Africa booked automatic qualification after edging Zimbabwe 3-2, finishing four points clear of Angola. Elsewhere, Angola exit after a disjointed campaign in Morocco, with the September decision to replace long-serving Pedro Goncalves failing to deliver cohesion.

Crucially, history still favours the chasing pack, as every third-placed team with three points has progressed since Afcon expanded to 24 teams in 2019.
