Fabrizio Romano says Manchester United are not expected to make a move for Alejandro Balde in January, despite the Barcelona left-back's long-term future remaining uncertain. The Red Devils were interested in Balde during the summer.
But that move did not materialise, and there is currently no indication that the club plans to revive its interest in January.
Why Fabrizio Romano Says No January Move Is Expected For Balde
Romano, speaking on his YouTube channel, provided an update on Balde's situation. He said there have been no new talks or contact between United and Barcelona, with the player's situation likely to depend on what happens at the Catalan club over the coming months.
"We have to see how the next three, four months will go because Balde obviously wants to play football," Romano said, adding that Balde "is in love with Barcelona" and has never pushed to leave despite wanting more consistent playing time.
Romano also said he does not expect United to make a move for a left-back in January. That means Balde is not currently expected to be a target for the Red Devils during the winter window, despite the club's previous interest in him.

United's interest in Balde led to direct contact between the two clubs. Romano confirmed that Balde's agent, Jorge Mendes, travelled to Barcelona to discuss a potential move with club director Deco, with the possibility described at the time as "concrete."
However, the two sides could not agree on the structure of the deal, and the move eventually broke down.
United were only prepared to pursue a loan with a buy-option clause that would become mandatory under certain conditions, rather than an immediate permanent transfer. Barcelona, however, were not willing to accept a loan for Balde.
"Only permanent transfer, and then also the salary was a problem," Romano said, pointing to another issue that prevented the deal from moving forward.
The two sides could not agree on the terms, so the move was abandoned before the summer window closed. United ultimately ended the window without signing a new left-back.
What Ian Maatsen's New Contract Means For Man Utd's January Plans
Balde was not the only left-back option United explored over the summer. Romano confirmed the club also considered Ian Maatsen, but Aston Villa made it clear they were not willing to sell him after already letting Lucas Digne leave.
Villa's position has not changed since then, with Maatsen still not available for a move. According to Romano, Maatsen is close to signing a new contract with Aston Villa, which would rule out a January move for the left-back.
"For Maatsen, the new contract is almost done," Romano said. "So, the update I can give you is that Maatsen is going to sign a new contract at Aston Villa. So, I don't anticipate any movement in the January transfer window."
Barcelona have reportedly considered a permanent sale of Balde as a way to raise funds under Financial Fair Play rules, but the club has not been willing to consider a loan. Balde remains happy at Barcelona for now, although he wants more regular playing time.
For now, there is no transfer in the works. United are not expected to make a move in January.
