Egypt boss Hossam Hassan has explained why winning the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations is a major priority. His side continues their strong start to the tournament.
The former striker has guided the Pharaohs into the knockout stages after a hard-fought 1-0 victory over South Africa. This was despite Egypt being reduced to 10 men. Mohamed Salah’s first-half penalty proved decisive, lifting Egypt to the top of Group B amid late stoppage-time controversy.
Egypt will now turn their attention to their final group-stage clash against Angola. Hassan is keen to build momentum ahead of the round of 16.

With Egypt poised to secure continental silverware for the first time since 2010, Hassan reflected on their progress. He discussed the importance of winning their eighth AFCON title.
"I always think of Egyptians," Hassan said in the press conference. "The ones who watch the games in the streets or at home. I tell the players, 'You have friends and families who you should make proud.'
"As you know, I am a man of the people. I know what it takes to make the fans happy. It means a lot to me, and that's the message I try to convey to the players.
"We haven't achieved anything yet. There is a long way to go in this tournament. But we try to improve every game, and hopefully we can go all the way," he added.

Having secured qualification for the next round, Egypt can now rest some key players. These include Mohamed Salah, Omar Marmoush, and Mahmoud Trezeguet.
However, Egypt will have to do without their main right-back, Mohamed Hany. The 29-year-old had started both games in the competition so far.

Hany was handed a straight red card for a reckless challenge before the end of the first half against South Africa.
Meanwhile, players like Osama Faisal and Mahmoud Saber could also feature. Former Midtjylland midfielder Emam Ashour is expected to start against Angola on Monday.
