World Cup winner Ferran Torres made a €50 million move from Barcelona to PSG this summer. During a PSG media day, the 26-year-old spoke out on how the transfer interest became a reality.
The former Manchester City star said (via Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo):
"They began contacts with PSG even before the World Cup. They called us and we were talking. When we spoke, I had already made the decision because I wanted to play for a club like PSG. It's a step forward in my career that I'm super proud of because I'm getting to the European champion."
Torres also highlighted his adaptation to Luis Enrique's PSG side following his departure from Barcelona.
Where will Ferran Torres fit in PSG's attack?
Torres displayed full confidence to play in various positions, after starting as a striker for the past few seasons he has also netted twice as a left winger for PSG against Rennes on their season opener. The dynamic attacker told media:
"Luis Enrique has always asked me the same thing, just like before. It has allowed me to perform in all three attacking positions and if you can play in several positions it is good for the team and for me. The only thing Luis Enrique has done is give me confidence. I feel comfortable as a '9′, I have played there in the last two years in that position. But in the first game with PSG, Luis Enrique put me on the left wing and I scored two goals, so I'm going to play wherever I put myself".
Champions League Reunion Set for Torres
PSG have been drawn against Barcelona in the Champions league's league phase at the Parc des Princes in France's capital. With just under eight weeks until the two juggernauts of football clash, Torres told media:
"The match against Barcelona will be special. They were my companions for four and a half years. It's going to be an exciting match for me and for the team. PSG-Barcelona matches are always special. We will try to win, but we will see. PSG is currently the best team in Europe. They have won the last two Champions Leagues. And that puts more pressure on the opponents. We have to improve. We will try to win the Champions League for the third year in a row."
Enrique's impact goes beyond football
Ferran Torres will once again look to repay Luis Enrique as the Spaniard's join forces once again with the aim to be a three-peat of Champions League titles. The former Manchester City winger told reporters:
"I have always said that Luis Enrique was like a father to me since I arrived at the Spanish national team. He has always believed in me and now he believed in me to sign for PSG. He has always given me a lot of confidence and I hope to repay it this season. Both Luis Enrique and Luis Campos have been very important figures for me to be here. I am very grateful for the trust they have given me. Now I'm acclimatizing, I've been here for two weeks and the only way I have now is to keep improving and be ready for my teammates. I can't wait to win trophies and matches at this amazing club."
