The European football transfer market has witnessed a goalkeeper domino, with several clubs reshaping their options between the posts.

Fabrizio Romano has now reported that Juventus have reached an agreement to sign Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario.

Vicario will join the Bianconeri on a season-long loan deal with an option to be made permanent next summer.

The Italy international has secured a return to his home country, where he is expected to become Juventus' first-choice goalkeeper.

Why Vicario Is Leaving Tottenham After Three Seasons

Guglielmo Vicario has brought his time in England to an end after three years in the Premier League. The 29-year-old joined Tottenham from Empoli in the summer of 2023 for a reported €20 million.

He replaced Hugo Lloris as the club's first-choice, with the Frenchman having left for MLS side LAFC.

Vicario has played 117 times for Spurs, keeping 29 clean sheets in his time at the club. He was in goal as the club won the UEFA Europa League in 2024 to end their lengthy trophy drought.

The former Empoli man was in goal 43 times for Tottenham last season, but some costly mistakes contributed to questions over his position.

He underwent a surgery to repair a hernia in March and did not appear for the club after the surgery.

Italian tactician Roberto De Zerbi took over at the club in the closing weeks of the 2025-26 season, and picked Antonin Kinsky as his first-choice between the sticks.

Kinsky impressed De Zerbi enough to establish himself as Tottenham's preferred goalkeeper, leaving Vicario with little prospect of reclaiming his starting role.

Vicario was dropped from the squad for their summer pre-season tour after the club signed Martin Dubravka to serve as their back-up goalkeeper.

He is now set to move back to Italy.

Why Juventus Turned to Vicario After Missing Out on Other Targets

Juventus' move for Vicario comes in a summer where they have prioritized bringing in a new goalkeeper to bolster their squad.

They were in talks to sign Emiliano Martinez, but a move for the Argentina international fell through after they failed to meet Aston Villa's asking price.

They were also monitoring the possibility of signing Zion Suzuki on loan if his move to Paris Saint-Germain went through.

After neither move materialised, Juventus turned to Vicario, who was eager to return to his homeland.

By agreeing a loan move with an option to buy, they have avoided an immediate heavy transfer outlay this summer.

This would have been important following the signings of Kerim Alajbegovic and Randal Kolo Muani, as well as their failure to qualify for the UEFA Champions League.

They have instead secured an experienced goalkeeper without committing to a permanent transfer immediately.
