Right on the heels of Bayern Munich winning the Franz Beckenbauer Supercup by virtue of a 2-1 win over Borussia Dortmund at Westfalenstadion, Harry Kane has been named Germany's Player of the Year for 2026 in addition to Vincent Kompany being named manager of the year.

With the individual accolade, Kane has become the first ever English player to have been named Germany's Player of the Year after scoring 61 goals across all competitions on the way to the Bavarians securing the domestic double (Bundesliga, DFB-Pokal).

They were also close to reaching the Champions League final at their home Allianz Arena, but fell just short to eventual winners Paris Saint-Germain over two legs in the semifinals.

In Europe, Kane was only second in Champions League goals (14) to Real Madrid's Kylian Mbappe (15).

Harry Kane Beats Michael Olise in German Player of the Year Vote

Kane beat fellow Bayern teammate Michael Olise to win the Player of the Year award after receiving the most votes from the 695 journalists who took part in the poll organised by German magazine kicker. The award can be given to any player playing in the Bundesliga or German player playing abroad.

Kane received 272 votes while Olise got 205 votes and was also the 2025 runner up to Liverpool's Florian Wirtz.

No other players came close to getting as many votes as Kane or Olise, though VfB Stuttgart's Deniz Undav received 61 votes, Bayern's Joshua Kimmich received 21, and Hoffenheim keeper Oliver Baumann received 14.

Max Eberl Runs Out of Superlatives for Harry Kane

"It's almost impossible to find the right superlatives to describe Harry Kane - sometimes I'm at a loss for words.

"He's already been named England's Footballer of the Year, and now he's also won it in Germany," Bayern board member for sport Max Eberl explained after the Bayern striker racked up yet another individual honor.

Eberl's point is understandable given Kane's remarkable numbers for Bayern, but Kane is also a contender to win the 2026 Ballon d'Or in London in October.

If he does so, he will become only the 2nd English player to have won the award while playing outside of England since the late Kevin Keegan, who won the award in 1978 and 1979 while playing for Hamburg.
