Barcelona's famed La Masia academy continues to produce talents for clubs across Europe in this summer's transfer window.

According to Fabrizio Romano, the Spanish giants have now agreed to sell Hector Fort to Real Sociedad on a permanent deal this summer.

In a deal led by sporting director Erik Bretos, the Basque club moved quickly as Borussia Dortmund failed to make a concrete proposal to secure the youngster for an initial fee of €8 million.

The Catalan giants retain a measure of control on his future, as they have a buy-back clause and a significant sell-on percentage.

Real Sociedad Agree €8m Deal for Barcelona's Hector Fort

Real Sociedad have reached a full agreement with Barcelona to sign 20-year-old right-back Hector Fort, with the Catalan club retaining a 50% sell-on clause.

Negotiations progressed smoothly between both clubs, with the youngster no longer part of Hansi Flick's plans at Barcelona.

He will now finalise his personal terms with the Copa del Rey holders before undergoing a medical and completing his move to San Sebastian.

Fort spent the 2025-26 season on loan at Elche, featuring 14 times in La Liga and registering two goals and two assists from full-back.

He is a product of the famed La Masia academy, and is comfortable playing in either full-back position.

How Real Sociedad Beat Borussia Dortmund to the Hector Fort Deal

Bundesliga outfit Borussia Dortmund were long considered to be the likely destination for Hector Fort this summer, as they are in the market for a replacement for Yan Couto.

They reportedly held talks with Barcelona, and the name of striker Serhou Guirassy was floated as one to go the other way.

Dortmund failed to submit a concrete proposal for the defender, allowing Real Sociedad to step in with their own offer.

La Real were aware that Fort favoured staying in La Liga and playing regular first-team football.

They managed to convince the player and his club, and have reached a swift resolution to sign him permanently.

Why Barcelona Retained a 50% Stake and Buy-Back Clause

Barcelona were reportedly asking for up to €20 million to sell Hector Fort this summer, but they lowered their demands to sell him to Real Sociedad.

They ensured they would retain an interest in Fort's future development by including certain clauses to protect their interests.

They have a 50% sell-on clause in the deal and included a buy-back clause worth €20 million, as well.

By their actions, they have managed to safeguard themselves against a potential future breakout at La Anoeta.

Barcelona could either profit from a future sale or use the buy-back clause to bring Fort back to the Spotify Camp Nou.
