‘Looks the Part’: Jamie Carragher Apologises as Jeremy Jacquet Blows Him Away

It's safe to say Jamie Carragher is very satisfied with what he has seen from Jeremy Jacquet since his debut for Liverpool this season.

Speaking on Sky Sports, the pundit was full of praise for the young Frenchman during the Reds' 1-0 win over Bournemouth.

Jacquet featured from start to finish as the Reds picked up a second successive clean sheet in the league, with their win moving them up to sixth in the standings.

The 21-year-old has become a key player for the team, playing alongside club captain Virgil van Dijk at the back.

He was named as the official Man of the Match after a commanding performance away from home.

Carragher Heaps Praise on 'Impressive' Jacquet

A former Liverpool defender himself, Jamie Carragher was thoroughly impressed with former Stade Rennais man Jacquet throughout the Bournemouth game.

Speaking after a vital interception from the youngster, the pundit praised him for not just doing the work, but also looking the part for the Reds.

"Brilliant again, [from] Jacquet. I am getting a bit carried away with him? I don’t know and I apologise to viewers at home. He’s really impressed.

"He's young, he will have bad games and he will make mistakes, of course that is the nature of young centre-backs.

"But he has played very well and he also looks the part. You know when you just look at a player and think he looks like a centre-back, he looks like a good player.

"It doesn't always work and I certainly wouldn’t class myself as looking the part when I played."

Jacquet signed for Liverpool in a £55 million plus £5 million in add-ons deal in January and was meant to remain with Stade Rennais until the summer, only for him to sustain a serious shoulder injury that ruled him out for the rest of the season.

This meant that he arrived this summer lacking fitness and match sharpness, and played for only 45 minutes in pre-season before impressing as the Reds' starting centre-back alongside van Dijk.

He has since played 417 of a possible 450 minutes in the Premier League so far, helping his new side to remain unbeaten through the first five games of the season.

France Call-Up A Reward For Impressive Start to Life in Liverpool

Jeremy Jacquet was included in the senior national team squad for France for the first time in his career.

The youngster's form has caught the attention of new Les Bleus boss Zinedine Zidane, who has invited 23 players to prosecute their UEFA Nations League fixtures.

Jacquet has played for France at every level from U-17 until U-21, and was part of the team that lost the final of the U-19 European Championship to Spain in 2024.

The centre-back is likely in the squad as a result of the injury to Arsenal star William Saliba, which has kept him out since the FIFA World Cup this summer.

With four games coming up from next week, Jacquet will have a chance to impress Zidane and cement his place in the coach's plans going forward.
