Germany are about to appoint Jurgen Klopp as their new head coach as the latter has accepted the role in principle.
While the discussion between both sides regarding the contract details is still in progress, a full agreement is set to be announced soon, according to the most recent reports.
This decision of resorting to Klopp as Germany’s head coach comes following another disappointing failure in the 2026 World Cup following the team’s failure in all of the previous World Cup editions that followed the 2014 World Cup, the edition that they won.
Following the decision of Julian Nagelsmann to step down from coaching Germany after the exclusion from the Round of 32 against Paraguay, the DFB decided to negotiate with their ideal candidate, Klopp, to rebuild the team ahead of the upcoming tournaments.
This was not the first time Germany discuss with Klopp regarding this deal as the DFB contacted him both in 2021 and in 2023 when Klopp was managing Liverpool.
Klopp refused the DFB’s offers on both occasions as he was still engaged with Liverpool.
But since Klopp is actually free from any managerial constraints, the time has come for him to lead the Germans back to glory.
Germany Finally Move for Their Long-Term First Choice

In fact, contacting Klopp following the failure in this World Cup was something pre-planned and not just a reaction to the loss against Paraguay.
The German coach’s success at all of Mainz, Borussia Dortmund, and Liverpool made him become a renowned reference in coaching and one of the World’s elite managers.
He is known for his excellent use of gegenpressing tactics and for developing the youth, while succeeding to win trophies and achieving targets wherever he went.
It is true that Klopp denied all the rumours linking him to managerial offers after having left Liverpool and became Red Bull’s Head of Global Soccer, confirming that he is not willing to coach again.
But, the DFB offer at this specific delicate timing is apparently tempting for Klopp who knows that succeeding in this job would at the same time help Germany get back to their winning ways and create another outstanding page in his successful coaching career.
So far, talks have been progressing between the two sides despite the fact that Klopp did not want to address the subject in the media during his television punditry work.
Furthermore, the DFB confirmed that Klopp expressed his willingness to discuss about the role.
Can Klopp Lead Germany Back to the Top?
Klopp will have one of Europe’s best national team players at his disposal.
The problem is that this group of players has been failing to achieve positive results since the 2014 World Cup, as they were eliminated from the group stage both in 2018 and in 2022.
This underachievement should be addressed in a thorough way if Klopp accepts the challenge, as he will need to make the right decisions in terms of player preferences and tactics in order to get back to winning.
It is believed that Klopp would be the ideal manager to succeed in this rest/rebuild mission, like he succeeded in doing so at Liverpool for example.
Having the capacity to develop young talents rapidly and make his team as competitive as possible will surely help him produce positive results progressively, even though he will be needing some time to apply his ideas.
If the DFB and Klopp agree on the remaining contract details and on the objectives, the primary target for Klopp would be to build a competitive team ahead of the UEFA Euro 2028 and ensure that Germany would challenge for the title or at least the final four to begin with.
