Manchester United will look to strengthen their push for a top-four finish when they
welcome struggling Wolves to Old Trafford, with the visitors enduring one of the worst
Premier League campaigns in history.
Ruben Amorim’s side edged past Newcastle 1-0 on Boxing Day, a result that moved United to
within five points of the Champions League places.
Notably, it was their first league victory without Bruno Fernandes since March 2022 and
continued a strong run of form that has seen them lose just twice in their last 12 league matches
(W6, D4).
Old Trafford has again proven a difficult venue for opponents. United have been beaten only
once at home since the opening weekend of the season, recording five wins and two draws in
that period.
Wolves arrive in stark contrast, having suffered a 2-1 defeat at Liverpool last time out which was
their 11th consecutive league loss. With just two points collected from 18 matches, they sit
bottom of the table and have recorded the lowest points tally at this stage in English top-flight
history. Damning
United claimed a convincing 4-1 win in the reverse fixture earlier this month and have now won
eight of the last Premier League meetings between the sides. Wolves did manage a victory at
Old Trafford last season, but they have not won consecutive away league matches against
United since 1961.
Statistically, United’s home games have followed a familiar pattern. Nine of the 12 goals they
have conceded at Old Trafford have come after half-time, despite only two teams leading more
matches at the break this season.
Wolves, meanwhile, are yet to score a first-half away goal in the league, with all five of their
Premier League goals at Old Trafford arriving after the interval.
Benjamin Šeško could be influential for United, with four of his last five club goals coming before
half-time. This is an area Wolves have struggled to control on their travels, allowing Liverpool to
score two first half goals in a season where they have been consistently outscored in the
opening period.
For the visitors, Mateus Mané offered a rare bright spot on his Premier League debut at Anfield,
registering four shots, and previously provided an assist at the Emirates Stadium.
United’s injury list remains largely unchanged, though Mason Mount remains a doubt. Wolves
will be without André, who is suspended.
