The Liverpool forward, Mohamed Salah, who scored the decisive goal from the penalty spot, described the match as a stern test against a disciplined opponent capable of controlling long spells of possession.
“I am happy with the result. It was a tough match against a team capable of keeping possession for long periods,” Salah said.
The game played in Morocco in front of a near-capacity crowd. So very strong support from both Egyptian and Moroccan fans creating an electric backdrop.
“The stadium was almost full. I’m proud to play in Morocco and to be surrounded by Egyptian and Moroccan fans. The atmosphere was amazing,” he added.
Salah also struck a measured note about Egypt’s progression in the tournament. Emphasising the importance of momentum rather than spectacle at this stage of the competition.
“I hope we continue moving forward in this way.”
Egypt’s win keeps them firmly on track in Group B, with qualification for the knockout stages now within reach. While the performance may not have been expansive, Salah’s words reflected a sense of calm confidence and collective focus within the squad. All the pressure of AFCON continues to build.
