Harry Kane made history last night when he became the first Englishman since Michael Owen to win the Ballon d'Or.
It had been 25 years since Owen claimed the most prestigious individual award and no better venue for Kane to follow in his footsteps than at the London Palladium. The former Liverpool striker stood on the stage and watched Ronaldo Nazario award the Bayern Munich frontman.
The Ballon d'Or has now been one by five England heroes as Kane joined Owen, Kevin Keegan, Bobby Charlton and Stanley Matthews in footballing royalty. But this current generation is full of stars who could very well be destined to win the award.
Here, we predict the next five winners of the Ballon d'Or, factoring in current form, future talk, major international tournaments and age.
Lamine Yamal - 2027
Despite winning the Kopa Trophy for the third consecutive year, it's fair to say that Lamine Yamal's night ended in frustration. He believed he deserved to beat Kane to the Ballon d'Or based on his overall displays rather than the Bayern man's goalscoring records.
It's obvious that Yamal will be winning the award sooner rather than later and he's the current favourite for next year's ceremony. He's started this season with eight goals and six assists in 10 games across competitions for Barcelona.
Jude Bellingham - 2028
Given that Euro 2028 will be co-hosted by England and the Republic of Ireland, it makes sense for Jude Bellingham to be positioned as the Three Lions' talisman. Kane will be 36 at the time, and Bellingham will be entering his peak years at 25.
Bellingham already starred for his country at the World Cup this past summer. A similar European Championship campaign after a successful La Liga season with Real Madrid could lead to a sixth English winner of the Ballon d'Or.
Kylian Mbappe - 2029
Kylian Mbappe finished second this year and there are claims that he had come close to beating Kane to the prize. Only Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo have taken a top three finish more times than the French forward.
There's a good chance that Mbappe will still be at Madrid by 2029 and he'll have likely broken countless more records. With a World Cup a year away, there's a possibility he heads to it having finally won the Ballon d'Or.
Lamine Yamal - 2030
Yamal didn't quite light up this summer's World Cup as many expected despite Spain winning the tournament. He's even acknowledged he wasn't at his best and for some fans that's a big reason he didn't claim this year's Ballon d'Or.
Thus, come 2030 when the competition takes place in Saudi Arabia, he'll be relishing the chance to fire La Roja to a second World Cup triumph. He'll also be wanting to write a wrong and take his place at the top of throne following the biggest tournament in sport.
Erling Haaland - 2031
It seems ridiculous to be trying to predict the future of any current Manchester City player. The club, as it stands, are set to be punished for breaking financial rules, and that might mean relegation.
Erling Haaland seems nailed on to leave if City do exit the English top-flight. A move to Spain would probably be on the cards and Barcelona need a prolific goalscorer to fill the void left by Robert Lewandowski.
Entering his thirties, Haaland is no longer about his pace and movement. He's just a marksman and in a Barca team creating chances for him on the regular, a Camp Nou switch could help him become a Ballon d'Or winner.
