Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur are set to lock horns in what is expected to be a must-win Premier League clash for both sides on Saturday, October 10th.
The pair of underperforming outfits will be eager to emerge with all three points from the clash at Old Trafford after disappointing starts to the season.
Michael Carrick's United have won just twice, against Ipswich Town and Sabah FK, in seven outings since the start of the 2026-27 season.
They needed a late leveller to escape with a point against Fulham in their last game, and are in 12th place in the Premier League standings.
Tottenham, on the other hand, are rooted to the bottom of the standings with two draws and three defeats from their opening five league games.
They have lost each of their last two games, and their only win this season came in the Carabao Cup against Charlton Athletic.
Manchester United have already been hard done by the officiating in the league once this term, in a 1-0 defeat to neighbours Manchester City.
They will hope never to relive such an experience, with the referees' error having cost them three points.
Stuart Attwell will officiate the game on Saturday, as the Premier League has announced.
Meet Manchester United vs Tottenham Referee Stuart Attwell
West Midlands native Stuart Attwell graduated from Staffordshire University in 2004 and took up refereeing, reaching the EFL three years later.
Just one year in the EFL was enough to earn him a Premier League debut at 25 years old in 2008, making him the youngest referee in Premier League history.
Now 44 years old, Attwell has remained a Premier League official for nearly two decades, officiating 247 games in total.
He has shown 927 yellow cards and 21 red cards in his games since. This season, he has been in charge for three games, showing 19 yellow cards and a red card.
Attwell has been in charge of 20 Premier League games involving Manchester United, and the Red Devils have won 12 and lost two of the games.
He was in the middle for their game against Bournemouth which ended 2-2 in March, after which Michael Carrick called him out for his performance in the game.
The Englishman has officiated 27 games involving Tottenham, with Spurs winning 16 and losing six of the games.
Their fans will have very recent memories of him, having had him involved in their 2-1 defeat to Chelsea at Stamford Bridge in May.
He failed to award a penalty when Marc Cucurella wrestled Micky Van de Ven to the ground, and failed to punish Liam Delap for a thrown elbow at Djed Spence, which left him with a broken jaw.
He has been in charge of this exact fixture once, back in October 2021, and Manchester United defeated Tottenham 3-0.
Who is Assisting Stuart Attwell?
Stuart Attwell will be joined at Old Trafford by a number of assistants, including Constantine Hatzidakis and Nick Hopton on the sidelines.
Rob Jones will serve as the fourth official for the encounter, while Jarred Gillett will be in charge of the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) equipment from Stockley Park. He will be assisted in the VAR room by Stuart Burt.
