Rio Ngumoha is expected to sign a new long-term contract with Liverpool and remain a regular starter this season, with the club dismissing reports of interest from Arsenal in the 18-year-old winger.
Football Insider's Pete O'Rourke reported that Ngumoha is happy at Anfield and has no plans to push for a move, despite Arsenal monitoring his situation.
The Merseyside outfit are working to extend his current contract, which runs until 2028, after his rapid progress at club and international level.
Why Liverpool Are Moving to Extend His Deal
Ngumoha signed his first professional contract in September last year, a three-year deal that was the maximum length allowed for a player of his age at the time. He turned 18 in August, making him eligible for a longer contract under FIFA rules.
And reports suggest Liverpool would move to extend his deal until 2031. A new deal has not been agreed yet. The Athletic's David Ornstein said talks are still ongoing:
"I don't know of an agreement yet on a new deal, so clearly that's something they'll try to progress," he said.
Ngumoha is one of Liverpool's most exciting young talents and as such they'll be keen to get his future sorted out. He has been used off the bench under Andoni Iraola so far this season.
What Arsenal's Interest Actually Amounts To
Arsenal have been linked with Ngumoha, but the interest has not developed into a formal pursuit. Ornstein said several clubs across Europe are monitoring the winger because of his talent, while Liverpool remain focused on keeping him at the club.
"They are allowed to like him," he said. "It doesn't mean Liverpool will sell him. They want to renew his contract."
Romano said any move for Ngumoha would be more likely to happen closer to the end of his current contract. He said Arsenal could be among the clubs interested in the winger in 2027 or 2028, but Liverpool are currently focused on keeping him.
"If there is a chance to sign Rio Ngumoha in 2027, 2028 or whenever, for sure Arsenal would be among the clubs interested," he said. "But at the moment, Liverpool want to keep the boy."
Why His Form and England Recognition Matter Now
Ngumoha has taken on a bigger role under new Liverpool manager Andoni Iraola as the club continues talks over a new contract.
He has started three competitive matches this season, played on both flanks, and was involved in the build-up to Alexis Mac Allister's opening goal in Liverpool's Carabao Cup win over Tottenham. Ngumoha has also received his first senior England call-up.
He was named in Thomas Tuchel's squad for four UEFA Nations League matches against Spain, Czechia and Croatia. He had missed out on England's World Cup squad earlier in the year despite training with the group.
But Tuchel kept him involved throughout the tournament and has now rewarded his club form with a place in the senior setup. Ngumoha's first-team opportunities and England call-up have strengthened Liverpool's case for a new contract.
