It was a day to remember on matchday seven of the FIFA World Cup 2026 as groups K and L action took place in Canada and USA.

While England’s captain Harry Kane rose to the occasion in a classic European heavyweight clash, Cristiano Ronaldo and Portugal were left shell-shocked by a spirited African powerhouse. Striver.Football recaps all the action from matchday seven of the World Cup:

Group K: DR Congo Frustrate Portugal As Colombia Start Strong

DR Congo 1-1 Portugal (Houston)

The tournament’s biggest shock unfolded at NRG Stadium in Houston, Texas as Cristiano Ronaldo, made history by appearing in his sixth World Cup.

However, his record appearance was entirely neutralized by a disciplined Congolese backline. Ronaldo was starved of service, managing a meager 25 touches all night.

Portugal looked on track for a routine win when 21-year-old midfielder Joao Neves ghosted into the box to plant a beautiful clinical header into the net after just six minutes.

However, Roberto Martinez’s men grew complacent, turning to a predictable, cross-heavy attack.

Deep into first-half injury time, former West Ham defender Arthur Masuaku whipped in a delightful, curling cross, and Yoane Wissa rose highest to thump his header past Diogo Costa.

The equaliser marked DR Congo's first-ever goal in FIFA World Cup history, sparking ecstatic celebrations. A scoreless second half sealed a famous point for the Leopards, leaving Portugal with plenty of questions to answer.

Colombia 3 - 1 Uzbekistan (Mexico City)

Colombia took early control of Group K with a commanding performance at the Estadio Azteca. Bayern Munich Winger Luis Diaz put on an absolute masterclass, tearing through the Uzbek defense to register a goal and an assist.

World Cup debutants Uzbekistan refused to go down without a fight. Trailing 2-0, youngster Abbosbek Fayzullaev's clinical finish pulled one back, marking his nation's first-ever World Cup goal and setting up a tense finale.

However, Colombia's depth proved superior. Substitute Jaminton Campaz struck late to extinguish the Uzbek comeback and secure a crucial opening three points for Los Cafeteros.

Group L: Kane Makes History While Ghana Leave It Late

England 4 - 2 Croatia (Dallas)

Thomas Tuchel’s first major tournament match as England manager turned into an instant World Cup classic. Facing perennial tournament thorns Croatia, the Three Lions displayed a ruthless attacking edge that sent a clear statement to the rest of the world.

The match began in high-stakes drama when Harry Kane missed an early penalty, sending his effort straight at the goalkeeper..

Undeterred, the England captain responded like a true talisman. Kane rebounded to score a brilliant brace, spearheading the English frontline.

With those two goals, Kane moved level with Gary Lineker for the most World Cup goals in an England shirt (10). Jude Bellingham and a late substitute strike from Marcus Rashford completed the scoring for England.

Croatia, however, pushed the Three Lions to the absolute limit. 37-year-old veteran Ivan Perisic rolled back the years, providing a magnificent assist for Petar Musa.

The moment of the match belonged to Croatian starlet Martin Baturina, who unleashed a thunderous, unstoppable strike into Jordan Pickford’s top corner after a sequence of elegant team passing.

Ghana 1 - 0 Panama (Toronto)

In the pouring rain at BMO Field, Ghana and Panama engaged in a grueling, physical battle of attrition.

For 94 minutes, a messy, error-strewn game seemed destined for a goalless stalemate.

Then came the magic.

In the 95th minute, Brandon Thomas-Asante broke loose on the flank and sent a perfectly weighted square pass across the box.

20-year-old starlet Caleb Yirenkyi tapped it home, sparking wild Ghanaian celebrations on the pitch and in the dugout, giving the Black Stars a vital opening victory.
