This month's international break has featured several historic moments for the USMNT, with 17-year-old Cavan Sullivan providing the latest.
This time, it was 17-year-old Cavan Sullivan who made history, becoming the youngest goalscorer in the history of the national team.
The Manchester City-bound teenager was on target for the USMNT in their 3-0 win over rivals Mexico in Arizona.
With his strike, he overtook teammate Mathis Albert as the youngest goalscorer for the team, ensuring that the Borussia Dortmund starlet held the record for just five days.
Philadelphia Union youngster Sullivan continues to turn heads with his performances for club and country, earning rave reviews as a move to Europe nears.
How Cavan Sullivan Broke the USMNT Goalscoring Record Against Mexico
Sullivan became the fourth-youngest player to represent the USMNT last month, after Mauricio Pochettino trusted him with a start in the 4-1 friendly win over Peru.
The teenager made an appearance off the bench against Chile five days ago, and was on the pitch when 17 year and 131-day old Mathis Albert scored to break Christian Pulisic's record and become the youngest scorer for the USMNT.
He was restored to the starting XI for the clash against Mexico, and he repaid Pochettino's trust with a confident strike from range.
He intercepted a stray pass from Mexico goalkeeper Raul Rangel, and chipped him in the 62nd minute for his first international goal.
At 17 years and five days old, he became the youngest player to score for the USA and only the fourth 17-year-old to find the net for the national team, after Albert, Pulisic, and Juan Agudelo.
How Cavan Sullivan’s Rise Has Accelerated With Philadelphia Union and USMNT
Manchester City agreed a deal for Sullivan in 2024, when he was 14, with the teenager set to join the club after turning 18.
He has since undergone a meteoric rise at Philadelphia Union, becoming a first-team regular for the club earlier this year.
Sullivan's form in the MLS made it impossible for Pochettino to ignore his rise, and the former Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur boss included him in the squad for this window.
While away with the national team, the teenager was named as the Player of the Month for September in the MLS, having scored four goals and supplied five assists in four games for his team.
He has now followed that form with a strong start to his international career, scoring in his third appearance for the USMNT.
USMNT Overcome 10-Man Rivals Mexico in Arizona
The USMNT picked up a third successive win of the international window with a 3-0 victory over Mexico.
Pochettino's young stars continued to deliver, as 18-year-old New York Red Bulls striker Julian Hall opened the scoring in the first half with his third strike in as many games.
Sullivan added a second goal in the 62nd minute, after which Mexico's Mateo Chavez was sent off in the 67th minute after making contact with Sebastian Berhalter's face during a confrontation.
Malik Tillman made it three with five minutes left in the game, netting his second goal in three games.
