After the best domestic title race in it's history, the summer of football is only just beginning for Scotland. The Tartan Army is back on the world’s biggest stage for the first time since France 98. Meet the three young stars ready to announce themselves to the world at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
As Scotland prepares for their return to football's biggest stage after 28 long years, Steve Clarke’s men will hope to make more history.
While this Scottish squad boasts seasoned internationals such as Tottenham’s latest signing, Andy Robertson, and Aston Villa hero John McGuin, the fans, dressed in royal dark blue, will descend onto America keen to see who the next generation of Scottish stars are.
Despite having the 5th-oldest squad at the tournament, Striver.Football gives you an insight into three Scottish wonder-kids ready to become the Tartan Army’s new heroes.
Ben Gannon-Doak
Age: 20
Club: Bournemouth
Position: Right winger and attacking midfielder
A £20 million signing from Middlesbrough in 2024, Ben Gannon-Doak is the best placed Scottish wonder-kid to excel in North America, having already accumulated 12 international appearances for his country.
Known for his blistering pace and elusive dribbling, he loves to reel defenders in before leaving them stranded with intricate footwork and spiriting down the touchline to deliver pinpoint crosses.
His versatility allows him to operate as a fluid right winger or as a central attacking midfielder. Whatever position he plays in, Gannon-Doak’s versatility and adaptability have allowed him to develop a footballing brain far beyond his young years, and it's no wonder he is being touted as Scotland’s “secret weapon”.
Findlay Curtis
Age: 19
Club: Rangers
Position: Left Winger and attacking midfielder
Scotland’s future in attack is looking incredibly bright after the explosive Findlay Curtis was called up to complement Scotland’s attacking firepower.
Similar to Gannon Deck, the Rangers academy graduate loves to drive forward and take defenders on with direct attacking intent before cutting inside and unleashing creative shots at goal.
Tyler Fletcher
Age: 19
Club: Manchester United
Position: Central defensive midfielder, but can also line up as an attacker.
Preferring to play as a deep-lying number 6, Fletcher is impressive at dictating the tempo and pace of games, anchoring the midfield and breaking up passing sequences before launching counterattacks with long diagonal balls upfield.
Known for his calming and elegant approach to the ball, he possesses great strength and, as with the other Scottish wonder-kids, can play in multiple positions across the centre of midfield.
A New Era Beckons for Scotland
This current Scotland generation had already made history even before the World Cup by reaching two European Championships in a row.
However, with an ageing core of internationals, this World Cup will be viewed as the last dance for most of these Scotland players to make history on football's biggest international stage.
Whatever happens in North America, the versatility and quality of these three superstars suggest that it won't be another 28 years before Scotland returns.
