It's a tough one for the youngsters to take as Manchester United have decided not to enter the EFL Trophy next season.
There are two reasons as two why the Red Devils will not compete in this tournament, as well as the National League Cup.
Due to the senior side qualifying for Champions League football in the 2026-27 campaign, the academy will be involved in the UEFA Youth League.
Plus, United's youth squad is smaller than normal as players are having to transition between the under-18 and under-21 sides.
Why The Decision Could Benefit Manchester United's Young Players
While it may seem like a negative of not being included in a certain competition, the promising careers of young United footballers remains hopeful.
It will be a chance for young players to gain more first-team training opportunities, showcasing their skills to highly professional and experienced players.
Not only that, it gives the academy an opportunity to focus on individual development, so the best young players can continue to improve and shine on important occasions.
With the number of competitions United are involved in, it seems to be the correct decision that the academy chiefs have made so development time can be put in for the players.

Why The UEFA Youth League Offers A Bigger Opportunity
The EFL Trophy is a good tournament for young players to compete against first-team squads, giving them a proper taste of professional football.
However, it's a competition which United's youth team don't stand a great chance of winning as the UEFA Youth League will be something the Red Devils can contest for.
Not to forget, they will continue to play in the Premier League Under-21 International Cup, a competition they haven't reached the semi-finals of.
Last season, they managed to reach the final eight, but were beaten by the 2025-26 winners Real Madrid.
What Comes Next For Manchester United's Academy
Ahead of the 2027-28 season, the academy chiefs will review the game programme and decide to re-enter.
United's focus is more on individual development for the sake of the players gaining greater opportunities within the club, all while being selective when recruiting the best players.
It is believed that Adam Lawrence is extending his time as Man Utd Under-21 manager where he returned after a stint with Newcastle United.
The likeliness of Lawrence continuing his role with the academy is strong after Travis Binnion was elevated to Michael Carrick's senior side, staying with the first-team after Carrick's appointment.
