Arsenal’s interest in Vinicius Junior has ended after the Brazil forward signed a new six-year contract with Real Madrid.

Madrid confirmed on Thursday that the 26-year-old will remain at the Bernabeu until 30 June 2032, ending months of speculation about a possible move to England. Vinicius, who joined Madrid from Flamengo in 2018, will be 32 when the new deal expires.

Why Vinicius Jr Committed His Future to Real Madrid

Vinicius Jr's first comments after signing his new contract suggested his bond with Real Madrid played a major role in the decision. In a post on Instagram, the Brazil forward wrote: "Eight years at the Bernabeu is far too short. Six more years and forever."

The Gunners were reportedly prepared to meet Vinicius Jr’s wage demands, but financial terms were not the only issue in the transfer saga. The Brazilian ultimately chose to remain at Real Madrid.

Talks accelerated after Vinicius returned to Madrid following the World Cup. Reports said the player’s representatives held discussions with the club before an agreement was reached, ending Arsenal’s hopes of signing him.

However, the exact details of the negotiations have not been publicly confirmed.

Barcola Emerges as Arsenal’s Primary Alternative

Arsenal have quickly shifted their focus after Vinicius committed his future to Los Blancos. Reports have linked the Premier League champions with Paris Saint-Germain winger Bradley Barcola.

Athletic Bilbao’s Nico Williams is also being considered as the club looks to strengthen on the left side of its attack. Barcola may appear to be a more attainable target than Vinicius, but Arsenal would still face significant obstacles.

The France winger is under contract with Paris Saint-Germain until 2028, although reports suggest that talks over an extension have stalled. But he has shown genuine willingness to leave. He has 39 goals and 37 assists across 152 appearances for the club.

He also scored three goals for France at the World Cup this summer. For Barcola, PSG are reportedly seeking between £128 million and £145 million for the France winger, putting him among the biggest potential deals of the summer.

Arsenal would also face competition from Liverpool, who have pursued Barcola for much of the window. Several reports suggest the player would prefer a move to Anfield if both clubs reach an agreement with PSG.

Everton forward Iliman Ndiaye has also been mentioned as a possible target. However, Arsenal’s interest appears to be at an early stage, with other clubs also monitoring the Senegal international and Everton seeking to retain him.
