Antoine Griezmann Struggles With MLS Conditions as Video Goes Viral

Antoine Griezmann has only been in the MLS since July but he's already feeling the difference in weather conditions in the United States.

The 35-year-old joined Orlando City after 10 years with Atletico Madrid and became one of the latest household names to head to the USA. He's joined the likes of former Barcelona teammate Lionel Messi and Robert Lewandowski in the ever-growing North American league.

Griezmann has made an impressive start to life at Inter.co Stadium and he netted the winner in his side's 1-0 win over San Diego on Sunday. While the Frenchman enjoyed another excellent display, it came amid humid conditions.

Griezmann scored his sixth goal in 11 games during the win against San Diego, finding the back of the net in the 28th minute. Five minutes later though he wore a face of discomfort along with a uniquely made bandana to try and cool himself down.

A video has surfaced online of Griezmann struggling to deal with the heat which is reported to have reached a temperature of 94 °F (34 °C) and a minimum temperature of 76 °F (24 °C).

While fans were amused they did voice some legitimate concerns about the French forward. One fan wrote on Reddit:

"It’s as hot as the surface of the sun in the American South right now. And it’s unbelievably humid. Just existing outside sucks right now, let alone playing a sport."

Another added:"Heat index was at 108F (42C) with something like 70% humidity. Genuinely dangerous conditions if you're not extremely careful."

Griezmann managed to play through the humidity and help Orlando claim all three points. They sit eighth in the MLS Eastern Conference table ahead of a trip to Atlanta United on Thursday (September 10th) where the conditions should be a little more easy to withstand.

Griezmann Living a Dream at Orlando

Griezmann said that he had made a childhood dream move to the MLS after signing for Orlando. The Frenchman said during his unveiling back in July (via Reuters):

"Since I was 18, ⁠it was my dream to come to MLS. It was very important for me to arrive in good physical and mental condition, and that's why I took this step."

He added: "I connected very well with the club, I loved the city and my children are delighted. It has been incredible and unexpected for my family and me, and hopefully we can give that affection back."

Griezmann is regarded as one of the greatest players in Atletico Madrid's history having become their all-time top scorer with 173 goals in 501 games. He won the Europa League in 2018 with Diego Simeone's side but is now looking to achieve more success in the MLS as he enters the twilight years of his career.
