Harry Kane has signed a new Bayern Munich contract until 30 June 2029, but the deal’s place in football’s global wage hierarchy is more complicated than the headline suggests.
Bayern confirmed the extension on 5 November, keeping the England captain at the club beyond his previous 2027 contract expiry. The club did not disclose his salary or other financial terms.
The Athletic reports that the new agreement makes Kane Europe’s highest-paid player in terms of guaranteed salary. However, other players could still earn more when performance-related bonuses, image rights and commercial income are included.
Harry Kane’s New Bayern Contract and Salary
Since joining Bayern Munich from Tottenham Hotspur in 2023, Kane has become one of the club’s most important players. He has scored 156 goals in 161 appearances, won the 2026 Ballon d’Or, and helped Bayern win domestic trophies.
Bayern have not revealed how much Kane will earn under his new deal. Reuters also reported that the club did not share the financial details.
Before signing the extension, Kane was estimated to earn around €25m gross per year, or roughly €480,000 a week. Those figures were never officially confirmed, but reports following his new deal suggest he will now earn more.
Kane also explained why he was happy to stay in Munich. Speaking in Bayern’s official announcement, he said:
“I feel right at home at FC Bayern. I love the club, the fans and the city of Munich. We have a fantastic team and, in Vincent Kompany, a fantastic manager. It makes me very proud to be part of this club. My whole family is very happy here. I was keen to stay. I’m now looking forward to the future, and I want to win many more titles with this great club.”
Bayern chief executive Jan-Christian Dreesen was equally pleased with the news, describing the new deal as fantastic for the club, its supporters and the Bundesliga.
Where Kane Ranks Among The World’s Highest-Paid Players
Kane's place among football's highest earners is hard to pin down because the available figures don't always cover the same types of income. However, comparing him with some of the game's biggest earners gives an idea of the difference between his reported Bayern salary and their overall earnings.
These figures offer a guide, not a confirmed 2026 ranking, as Bayern have not disclosed Kane's new salary.
3. Harry Kane — Bayern Munich
Before signing his new deal, Kane was estimated to earn €25m gross per year at Bayern. His new contract reportedly pays more, though the exact figure hasn't been confirmed.
2. Sadio Mané — Al-Nassr
Forbes estimated Mané's total earnings at £42m in 2025, including £39m from football and £3m from commercial deals.
1. Cristiano Ronaldo — Al-Nassr
Ronaldo remains one of football's highest earners. Forbes estimated his total income at £228m in 2025, with £176m coming from football and £52m from commercial activities.
Kane's previously reported club salary is being measured against Mané and Ronaldo's total earnings in 2025, including commercial income.
However, they give an idea of the difference between reported salaries at European clubs and the much higher earnings some players can make in Saudi Arabia.
Why Kane Is Not Automatically the World’s Highest-Paid Player
The difference comes down to how earnings are counted. A guaranteed salary is the fixed amount a club agrees to pay a player, while performance-related bonuses can add to it through goals, appearances, trophies and individual awards.
Sponsorships, image rights and commercial deals can increase a player's total income even further. The Athletic's report puts Kane at the top of European football in terms of guaranteed salary.
However, that does not automatically make him the highest-paid player in the world.
For Bayern, the new deal is also a major commitment on the pitch. At 33, Kane remains a key part of Vincent Kompany's attack and has continued to score at an impressive rate since moving to Germany.
