Brighton and Hove Albion manager Fabian Hurzeler has officially been named the Premier League's Manager of the Month for September alongside Pascal Groß winning Player of the Month and Lewis Dunk winning goal of the month. The trio of individual accolades highlight just how positive of a start Brighton have had so far this season, having left off with a shock, 3-0 win over Arsenal at the American Express Stadium just before the international break.
Hurzeler's award could be viewed as an unlikely feat given he beat out Manchester City's Enzo Maresca, who has led his side to a perfect record across all competitions so far this season. He's the second non big-six manager to win the award, following Hull City's Sergej Jakirovic in August.
Hull City and Brighton starting their campaigns so well has underlined the excitement of the season thus far and City's off-pitch legal dealings might've had something to do with Marseca not getting the nod for September's manager of the month.
Hurzeler Brighton Record
Hurzeler led Brighton to an unbeaten run in September for the Seagulls that included a 1-1 draw with Leeds United, a 5-0 win at Coventry City, a 3-2 Carabao Cup third round win at Manchester United, and the 3-0 win over Arsenal. That followed an August where their only defeat came in the form of a 4-3 loss to Chelsea at Stamford Bridge when Xabi Alonso's side had started the season with three straight wins across all competitions.
As things stand, Hurzeler's record so far this season from all competitions is five wins, one defeat, and two draws. They currently sit in third place in the Premier League table, are on to the fourth round of the Carabao Cup while competing in the league phase of the Europa Conference League.
Ever since the German tactician joined Brighton in the summer of 2024, he's amassed an overall record of 40 wins, 25 draws, and 27 losses, and this term, his Seagulls are off to one of the best starts of a season in their history.
Hurzeler On The Map
The rest of the footballing world has taken notice, too as there is talk of Manchester United eyeing Hurzeler but they would have to pay a pretty penny to do so - upwards of £15m. His contract at Brighton runs through 2029 after he had signed an extension back in May; a testament to the club's belief in him.
Tottenham have also been linked interest, as there's growing uncertainty over Roberto De Zerbi's future in North London. Spurs have only won one of their seven matches across all competitions this season, a 5-1 Second Round Carabao Cup win over Charlton Athletic. They were subsequently knocked out of that competition, losing 3-1 to Liverpool at Anfield and sit in dead last in the Premier League on just two points and could be looking for a managerial change sooner rather than later.
While United and Tottenham are the two clubs that have outwardly expressed interest in Hurzeler thus far, if the German is able to have Brighton continue on their current run of form, far more clubs throughout Europe will take interest in him. It's difficult not to notice what he's doing.
