Arsenal were shocked 3-0 by Brighton at the Amex Stadium on Saturday afternoon to send shockwaves across the world of football heading into the International break.

Fabian Hurzeler’s vibrant Brighton were celebrating the club’s 125th anniversary, and they did so in style.

The special edition shirts they wore to mark the occasion will end up being collector’s items after the Premier League champions were ripped apart inspired by first-half goals from the veteran stand-in captain, Pascal Gross, and the exciting teenager Charalampos Kostoulas – who find themselves two points behind Arsenal and in third place.

Striver.Football brings you the player ratings from a clash that will go down in memory as a truly memorable one.

Arsenal

GK - David Raya - 2

Had an unusually dreadful day in goal. Should have done better for that first goal by Pascal Gross and did not command his area well on the day.

RB - Jurrien Timber - 2

The glaring lack of match sharpness showed all afternoon as Maxim De Cuyper ran rings around him all afternoon.

LB - Ricardo Calafiori -3

Struggled to contain Diego Gómez and couldn’t influence the game in attack as well as he usually does.

CB - Gabriel -3

Looked rash and careless all afternoon, as both he and Konsa should have done better for that first goal.

CB- Ezri Konsa-3

Like Gabriel, he looked rash and careless during the game, with Brighton creating waves and waves of attack.

CM- Bruno Guimaraes - 1

Arsenal’s worst player on the pitch. Myles Lewis-Skelly will surely be up in arms as to why he was unnecessarily dropped from the starting line up on watching that performance.

CM -Declan Rice-2

Looked unusually lost without a more natural number 6 like Myles Lewis Skelly next to him. His dynamic next to Bruno looked completely disjointed.

AM- Martin Odegaard-2

Struggled to impact the game, as he was forced to drop deep to receive the ball often given none of Bruno or Rice gave him the platform to stay further up the pitch, unlike while playing with Lewis-Skelly.

LW - Christos Tzolis-2

Another performance away from home where he struggled to really impose himself.

RW - Bukayo Saka-1

As he has looked for the better part of the last 12 months, Bukayo Saka struggled to influence the game in any way whatsoever. Is not the usual winger who used to ran riot before his grade three hamstring.

CF - Kai Havertz-1

Directly at fault for the second goal, and struggled to hold up the play and link up the midfield to the attack like he usually does.

Arsenal Substitutes

Martin Zubimendi -5

Came on at right back in place of the unfit Timber but didn’t do anything extraordinary.

Mikel Merino - 5

Came on for Bruno Guimares and really did not make any impact whatsoever other than keep possession..

Eberechi Eze -N/A

Viktor Gyokeres -N/A

Max Dowman -N/A

Brighton

GK- Bart Verbruggen - 6

Looked comfortable throughout and never faced a shot on target.

RB - Ferdi Kadioglu -6

Made Tzolis ineffective all afternoon and had a rather comfortable game.

Luka Vuskovic -7

Was a threat from set-piece situations and easily dealt with the threat of Kai Havertz.

Pascal Struijk -7

Was of great service to the younger Vuskovic partnered next to him and looked calm at the back all afternoon.

Olivier Boscagli -8

Dealt with the threat of Bukayo Saka, with the Englishman struggling to find a way past the Brighton left back.

Chema Andres -9

Controlled the midfield superbly and was rewarded with a goal when he leapt to get on the end of a floated ball from a setpiece situation.

Yasin Ayari -8

Operated those little pockets of space, making it hard for Bruno Guimares and Declan Rice to contain them.

Diego Gomez  -8

Provided an assist on what was a good afternoon for Gomez down that right flank.

Pascal Gross - 9

Continued his fine start to the new season with a low-drilled shot past David Raya’s near post for Brighton’s opening goal, and was the main factor behind their dominant performance.

Maxim De Cuyper -9

Had a good afternoon down the right flank, and his runs down that flank proved too much for Jurrien Timber to deal with.

Charalampos Kostoulas -10

Picked up where he left off against Man United in midweek with a goal and an assist to cap off a wonderful afternoon leading the line for the Seagulls.
