Manchester United could be set to look within the Premier League for their next signing in the January transfer window.
According to reports, the Red Devils are weighing up a shock approach to bolster their squad with the addition of a wantaway Manchester City star.
They failed to address a number of issues in their squad in the summer window and are prepared to make the necessary moves to rectify the problems, starting in January.
They have struggled this season, failing to win any of their last nine games across all competitions under Michael Carrick.
Manchester United eyeing Man City's Ait Nouri
Manchester City defender Rayan Ait Nouri has emerged as a target for Manchester United, as they look to sign a new left-back.
According to Italian outlet Tutto Juve, the Red Devils are keen on the Algeria international, but now face competition from Juventus.
United made an attempt to sign him with a last-gasp loan approach in the summer, following failed approaches for Lewis Hall and Alejandro Balde.
They were also linked with young Spaniard Jorge Salinas, but ultimately failed to sign any players to cover the position.
Their offer for Ait-Nouri was turned down by his club, but the former Wolves man could be open to a permanent switch, judging by his lack of game time at the Etihad.
Ait Nouri has been with the Cityzens since the summer of 2025, having joined them from Wolves, and he played 28 times in his first season.
This term, however, he has found himself effectively as the third-choice left-back under Enzo Maresca, as both Josko Gvardiol and Nico O'Reilly are ahead of him in the pecking order.
He has only appeared four times this season, with none of his games coming in the Premier League so far.
Ait-Nouri signing would be a fit for Manchester United
Carrick's United are prepared to make a move for a new left-back to provide competition and cover for Luke Shaw.
This season, they have had to use Diogo Dalot, Patrick Dorgu, and Ayden Heaven in the position, as England international Shaw has spent time out through injury.
The 25-year-old is capable of playing at left-back in a back four and left wing-back in a back three, as well as further forward as a winger.
His ability to bomb up and down his flank, his technical quality, and his willingness to contest duels, as well as his creativity, make him an asset to any side.
The Red Devils can do with a player of his quality in the position, and a move in January would make sense for all parties involved.
