It's still uncertain what's to come with the punishments Manchester City will face after being found guilty of 114 of the 115 charges that were lodged against them, but the club still has to go through the process of their appeal being reviewed. A points deduction, relegation to lower leagues, and transfer bans are all possible sanctions on the table, but for the time being, it's been business as usual for Enzo Maresca's side on the pitch.

So far this season, City have only lost twice across all competitions; the 4-2 loss to Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League, and the recent 2-1 loss to Aston Villa in the Premier League. Despite those two slip-ups, the Cityzens still sit in first place in the Premier League table, are still in the top ten of the Champions League table, and are through to the fifth round of the Carabao Cup.

While it's entirely uncertain what City's future transfer windows will be able to look like, the signings the club made over the summer have all been making their presence felt to great effect. Elliot Anderson has been a solid presence in midfield, Iliman Ndiaye has been effective in attack, Ayyoub Bouaddi has shown his craftiness in glimpses, and Enzo Fernandez has looked a confident stalwart in City's midfield alongside Anderson.

As such, despite not knowing what City's future transfer options could even look like, Fernandez is eager for the club to bring in a fellow Argentina national team player.

Enzo Wants Cristian Romero

In a recent episode of the Los Edul series hosted by Gaston and Esteban Edul, Enzo Fernandez revealed that he would like to have Argentina teammate Cristian Romero join City. The two were both key parts of the 2022 World Cup winning team in Qatar and have played alongside each other quite a few times for their national team.

"Cuti Romero," Fernandez replied when he was asked in rapid fire style what player from Argentina he would bring to City, quickly followed by giving the same answer when the Edul brothers asked who he felt the best defender in the world is right now.

The pair of Argentines have also squared off against one another in the Premier League twice when Fernandez was with Chelsea and Romero was with Tottenham, Chelsea having won on both of those occasions in the 2023/24 campaign. However, Romero now applied his traits in La Liga with Atletico Madrid, where he's helped the club get off to a decent start this season. They're currently second behind Barcelona in the La Liga table and within touching distance of the top eight in the Champions League table.

Is Enzo's Wish Realistic?

Right now, Romero's market value is 40 million euros per transfermarkt and the defender has been fitting in like a glove in Diego Simeone's setup, but he is 28 years old and his contract with Atletico runs through June 2031. Additionally, the Argentine defender does not have a release clause in his contract with Atletico, so Fernandez's desire seems like more of a pie in the sky type of a situation

Without a release clause, assuming City ever did make a move for Romero and they were still allowed to sign players in future windows, Atletico would know they could charge a pretty penny for the defender. They'd also be well aware of impending sanctions that could come down on City if they're not punished by the time the summer transfer window officially opens up.

Not to mention, there's also the small matter of City already having the likes of Marc Guehi, Ruben Dias, Josko Gvardiol, and Abdukodir Khusanov in their ranks at center back. It's not to say that Romero wouldn't start over any of the aforementioned center backs, but it's already an area where Maresca has strength in depth and not an area of the pitch they'd be desperate to bring in Romero for just after he made the move to Atletico.
