Premier League outfit Fulham have finally have agreed a deal to sign young Spanish prospect Gonzalo Garcia for a fee that can reach £36 million.

According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, the Cottagers will pay a fixed fee of around £34.3m, with another £1.7m available through future add-ons.

Real Madrid have also secured a 30% sell-on clause and matching rights as part of the agreement. The latter provision would allow the Spanish giants to match an accepted future offer for Garcia.

This protects their position if the 22-year-old fulfils his potential in England. The final formalities are expected to follow before Fulham officially unveil Garcia.

Gonzalo will join his former manager Alvaro Arbeloa at Craven Cottage. The Spanish manager worked with the striker during his time at La Fabrica.

Later, Arbeloa helped Garcia get regular senior opportunities with the Los Blancos' first team after Xabi Alonso's departure.

Why Fulham Wanted Gonzalo Garcia

Born in Madrid, Garcia has been a part of Real Madrid's youth system since he was 10. Despite spending a brief time in Mallorca, the striker's non-senior career was mostly spent in the Spanish capital.

Following a prolific season at Castilla, Garcia found his way to the first team. However, his display at the 2025 Club World Cup is what changed his position within the club.

He scored six goals and assisted once in six appearances as Madrid reached the semi-finals of the competition.

Garcia won the top-scorer award for that year's Club World Cup after scoring goals against the likes of Al-Hilal, RB Salzburg, Juventus and Borussia Dortmund.

During the 2025-26 campaign, the striker went on to score six times in La Liga. He also netted a hat-trick against Real Betis as Madrid won 5-1 at the Santiago Bernabeu.

Still 22, Garcia will now be hoping to become a regular scorer. Likewise, a transfer to the Premier League under his previous coach can allow him to fulfil his potential.

Why Real Madrid Included Sell-On And Matching Rights

Despite selling Garcia, Los Blancos can still make a call back to the Bernabeu in the future. However, they will have to match the offered fee that a potential club might make.

The sell-on clause also puts them in a great financial position. If the striker ends up moving elsewhere, they will retain 30% of the transfer fee.

Both these clauses were the obvious move for Madrid, who extended Garcia's contract last summer. The Madrid-native signed until 2030.

His previous contract was due in the summer of 2027, and Los Blancos were keen on securing the striker's future.

However, competition for minutes at the Bernabeu didn't allow for much development on the pitch. Hence, the 22-year-old decided to make a move where he'll be offered much more time on the ball than off it.

Fulham Also Move For Cesar Palacios

Fabrizio Romano also reported that Fulham will also sign Cesar Palacios from Madrid alongside Garcia.

Another La Fabrica graduate, the midfielder has also seen minutes come by under Arbeloa with Los Blancos. The 21-year-old made seven appearances for the first team last season.

He also saw outings in the Champions League following a recovery from a serious knee injury which he suffered during the club's 2024 pre-season tour.

Fabrizio Romano reports that the deal is sealed for £8.5m with same 30% sell-on clause.

Nevertheless, Florentino Perez's side will maintain some form of future control on both deals.

Arbeloa looks pretty confident in the La Fabrica graduates and trusts these players to make it in English football.

Garcia can undoubtedly score on the big stage and only needs regular minutes to turn that experience into consistent Premier League performances.

Palacios also has the experience, but an old cruciate ligament tear (ACL) will need him to be careful on the Isles.
