London City Lionesses defender Jana Fernandez has signed a new contract until 2029 after an impressive first season with the club.

The 24-year-old joined London City from Barcelona in August 2025 and quickly became an important figure in Eder Maestre’s side.

Fernandez featured in every Barclays Women’s Super League fixture during London City’s debut campaign in the top flight, helping the club finish sixth in the league.

Her consistent performances at right-back were also recognised by supporters, who voted her the club’s Player of the Season.

The new contract represents another important step in London City’s ongoing development as they look to establish themselves among the Barclays Women’s Super League’s top clubs.

Speaking after signing her new deal, Fernandez explained that she feels settled at the club and is excited by the direction of the project.

“I'm absolutely delighted to sign a new contract here at London City,” Fernandez said.

“When I arrived in England one year ago I joined this club with dreams for the future.

“Potential, excitement and progress are three words I associate with the club and I'm pleased to commit my future. I feel at home and settled here.

“We are building something special together, as players, staff and fans, and I can't wait to play my part.”

Fernandez’s comments highlight the growing ambition around London City, who have continued to strengthen their squad and infrastructure since entering the top flight.

Following a sixth-place finish in their first season, the club will now be aiming to build on that progress and compete at an even higher level.

Before making the move to England, Fernandez spent much of her career at Barcelona, progressing through the club’s academy before establishing herself at senior level.

During her time with the Catalan giants, she won five league titles, two UEFA Women’s Champions League trophies and two Copa de la Reina titles.

That experience at one of Europe’s most successful clubs has provided Fernández with valuable knowledge of competing for major honours, which she can now bring to London City’s developing squad.

At international level, the defender has also represented Spain and was part of the team that reached the Euro 2025 final.

Spain ultimately finished runners-up to England, but the tournament provided another opportunity for Fernández to compete on the international stage.
