Man United mounted a famous 3-2 comeback win over Roma to ease the pressure on Michael Carrick, but how did the players perform?

Manchester United ended a bad run of nine games without a win as Michael Carrick’s men came from behind to beat Roma 3-2 in their UEFA Champions League clash against Italian outfit Roma at Old Trafford on Tuesday night.

After going two goals down by half time, Bruno Fernandes’ scored from the penalty spot to pull one back for the Red Devils, before Matheus Cunha scored twice to complete the comeback and ease the pressure on Carrick.

Striver.Football breaks down how the players performed on a scale of 1-10:

Man United

GK-Senne Lammens-5

Should have done better than concede at his near post for Man United’s opening goal, with the side generally starting very slow off the blocks, but made a couple of saves afterwards to prevent Roma from extending their lead.

RB- Leny Yoro -5

Gave away the ball after making a wayward pass in the build up to the opening goal by Roma, and is still getting to fully grasp playing as a right back.

CB- Harry Maguire -5

Looked sloppy in possession which actually led up to Ayden Heaven giving away a penalty after the England international had made a poor clearance, but looked a bit more assured in the second half after United pulled one back.

CB- Ayden Heaven -4

Ball watched for the first goal and handled the ball in the box while attempting to clear it away in build up to the second goal.

LB- Diogo Dalot -4

Was hugely at fault for the first goal as he got caught out of position which allowed Mathias Soule all the ime and space down that right flank to score.

CM- Carlos Baleba -5

Unlucky to have pulled out of the second half with a hamstring problem

CM- Kobbie Mainoo -6

Looked energetic in midfield and tried to get his team going in attack in the second half.

LW - Matheus Cunha -9

Struggled to impact the game in an attacking sense in the first half, but scored two goals to cap off a memorable night for the Reds. Sent off for a reckless challenge in the dying stages of the game.

AM-Bruno Fernandes - 6

Scored the penalty that led to a much better display by United in the second half, but was not very effective otherwise.

RW-Amad Diallo - 4

Could not really get the side create anything of value down that right hand side.

CF-Bryan Mbeumo-6

Struggled to occupy the Roma back three as a center forward before moving out wide in the second half. Produced a shot in the second half that rattled both uprights.

Man United Subs

Youri Tielemans 7

On as a sub for the injured Baleba and tried to speeden things up from midfield for Man United which played a key role in their comeback.

Shea Lacey-8

Injected directness and energy into their right wing, and he capped it off with an assist.

Mason Mount - N/A

Mathis De Ligt - N/A

Roma

GK -Devis Vasquez-5

Impressed for the first 50 minutes of his debut and even made a brilliant save to deny Bruno Fernandes from the penalty spot even though it had to be retaken following encroachment by Brian Cristante. Looked rattled for most part after that.

RCB-Gianluca Mancini -6

Gave away a penalty that effectively led to their passive approach in the second half as United tried to get going in efforts to restore parity.

CCB - Leonardo Balerdi - 6

Worked hard to weather the storm especially in the second half as he worked very hard defensively to try and maintain their lead. Was unfortunate to have missed out on the ball in the build up to the equaliser by Man United.

LCB - Mario Hermoso - 7

Kept Amad Diallo at bay down that left hand side.

RWB - Devyne Rensch-N/A

Had to be subbed off in the 21st minute after picking up an injury.

CM - Bryan Cristante - 6

Tried to keep things ticking in the centre of the pack alongside Marten de Roon, and did well to try and calm things down after a period of sustained pressure by Man United but his efforts were not enough.

CM - Marten de Roon - 6

Worked hard to try and calm things down alongside Cristante during that brief moment Man United tried to make things happen.

LWB - Wesley Franca - 5

Bombed up and down energetically down that left side but faded in the second half.

RAM - Matías Soule -7

Took a well taken goal to give Roma the lead after attacking that space vacated by Diogo Dalor.

LAM - Rodrigo Mora  -7

Provided the assist for Roma’s lead with a very good pass to find Soule on the break.

CF - Donyell Malen  - 7

Took his penalty well and worked hard off the ball for Roma before being subbed off in the 77th minute

Roma Subs

Emanuele Lulli -5

On as a sub in the 21st minute after Franca got injured, Lulli did not do anything extra ordinary.

Niccolo Pisilli -5

Came on for Rodrigo Mora at the beginning of the second half but could not do enough to prevent United from avoiding defeat.

Evan Ndicka- 4

On to help protect Roma’s lead, he could not do enough to prevent United from completing the turnaround

Daniele Ghilardi  - 4

On to help protect Roma’s lead, he could not do enough to prevent United from completing the turnaround

Santiago Casto -4

On to help protect Roma’s lead, he could not do enough to prevent United from completing the turnaround
