Liverpool will be without Ryan Gravenberch for their Champions League trip to Fenerbahce after the midfielder was ruled out with a heel injury.

The 24-year-old will miss Wednesday's meeting with the Turkish side in Istanbul after picking up the issue ahead of the fixture.

Gravenberch was an unused substitute during Liverpool's 1-0 defeat to Arsenal at Anfield on Sunday, but will now be absent from the travelling squad for their European assignment.

Liverpool confirmed that the midfielder will instead remain at the AXA Training Centre to receive treatment from the club's medical team.

Gravenberch ruled out of Liverpool's European fixture

Liverpool manager Andoni Iraola had provided an update on Gravenberch following the Arsenal defeat, revealing that the midfielder had been experiencing problems with his heel.

"We had also the situation with Ryan. He had some issues in the heel," Iraola told BBC Sport.

"Let's see if we can count with him for the next game, but we didn't want also to risk Ryan."

The decision not to introduce Gravenberch against Arsenal suggests Liverpool were keen to avoid aggravating the issue, although his absence in Istanbul confirms he has not recovered in time.

Szoboszlai could step into Liverpool midfield

Gravenberch's absence leaves Liverpool with a decision to make in midfield ahead of Wednesday's fixture.

Dominik Szoboszlai came off the bench against Arsenal and could be in contention to start against Fenerbahce, offering Iraola another option in the centre of the pitch.

The Liverpool manager is expected to provide a further update on the squad during his pre-match press conference on Tuesday.

For now, Gravenberch will remain at the AXA Training Centre as he begins treatment, with his availability for Liverpool's upcoming fixtures dependent on his recovery.
