Manchester United will wear a modified version of their new 2026-27 third kit in Champions League matches after adjusting the front-of-shirt sponsor to comply with UEFA regulations.
UEFA requires clubs to use consistent main sponsor branding across all kits worn in its competitions. Manchester United's domestic third shirt, unveiled in mid-August, uses only the Snapdragon fireball logo as part of its central chest design.
In European competition, however, the club must use the full "Snapdragon" wordmark on the front of the shirt to comply with UEFA branding regulations, as it does on its home and away kits. Manchester United confirmed the change on its official website.
It stated that UEFA regulations require "Snapdragon" branding on players' shirts for any Champions League fixtures in which the third kit is used.
All kits in the tournament must feature the same logo version. In domestic competitions, including the Premier League, FA Cup, and EFL Cup, the third kit will retain the minimalist fireball icon from its original release.
The modified European version will only be used when the third shirt is required due to colour clashes in Champions League matches.

How Manchester United’s Third Kit Will Change for UEFA Matches
The third shirt keeps the same overall design, featuring an ivory/cream base with a subtle floral pattern, a centralised Manchester United crest and adidas logo, and Snapdragon branding on the chest.
For European games, the shirt will also feature the Snapdragon wordmark beneath the fireball, giving it a similar look to the home and away kits.
According to adidas design director Inigo Turner, the colours are inspired by Manchester’s red-brick buildings, as well as the green pipes, windowsills, and ledges found across the city.
The design also takes inspiration from youth institutions such as Salford Lads and Girls Club, which have played an important role in supporting working-class communities for more than a century.
Speaking on Inside Carrington, he said: “They're not just there randomly. Around Manchester, you see it a lot with the architecture of the city, the old buildings, the red brick.
“So the red brick is a direct reference to the dark red [accents on the shirt]. And then often on these buildings, so like, you know, walk around the city centre, the Peveril of the Peak, and all of these very famous landmarks we like to visit.
“[The green stripes] represent the green pipes and things, and windowsills, and ledges [found on these landmarks].”

Why Manchester United Need a Different Third Kit in Europe
The Red Devils will return to the Champions League for the first time in three seasons, with the league-phase draw set to take place in late August.
The club will need to ensure all kits registered for the competition comply with UEFA’s sponsorship rules before the tournament begins, including the modified third shirt, which could be used when there is a colour clash.
Snapdragon has been United’s main shirt sponsor since the 2024-25 season. The club’s adidas partnership, which was extended in 2023, runs until 2033 and is reportedly worth at least £900 million. United also have a separate £20 million-per-season deal with Betway for the training kit.
While Microsoft Surface features on the back of the shirt in domestic cup competitions.
