Chelsea moved to the top of the Women’s Super League table after coming from behind to defeat Crystal Palace 3-1, while Manchester United held Manchester City to a 1-1 draw in Sunday's derby.
Arsenal also claimed a north London derby victory over Tottenham Hotspur, while Brighton & Hove Albion recorded a convincing win against West Ham United. Elsewhere, London City Lionesses were held by Liverpool, Aston Villa defeated Everton and Birmingham City secured their first league win of the season.
Arsenal edge Tottenham in north London derby
Tottenham took the lead in the 13th minute when Cathinka Tandberg headed home from a corner, giving the hosts an early advantage.
However, Arsenal responded just four minutes later. Alessia Russo provided the assist for Georgia Stanway, who struck a powerful effort to bring the visitors level.
The Gunners continued to push for a second goal after the break, with goalkeeper Lize Kop producing an impressive save to deny Russo in a one-on-one opportunity.
Arsenal eventually completed the turnaround in the 56th minute when Russo converted from the penalty spot. The spot-kick was awarded after the ball struck substitute Ella Morris’ raised arm inside the penalty area.
Tottenham attempted to find an equaliser in the closing stages, but Arsenal held on to claim all three points.
The result ended Arsenal’s five-game winless run in the Women’s Super League and provided a timely boost for head coach Renee Slegers.
For Tottenham, the defeat was a frustrating outcome after taking an early lead in front of their home supporters.
Symonds inspires Brighton to convincing victory
Playing in blustery and wet conditions on the south coast, the Seagulls broke the deadlock in the 29th minute through a stunning long-range strike.
Symonds found the top corner with a right-footed effort from around 10 yards outside the penalty area, giving goalkeeper Constance Picaud-Inconnu little chance of making a save.
The hosts nearly doubled their advantage immediately after the interval, with West Ham defender Ines Belloumou deflecting the ball narrowly wide of her own goal while attempting to recover.
Brighton eventually put the result beyond doubt with two goals in three minutes.
Fran Kirby slid in at the back post to score the second before Kiko Seike produced a composed finish, delicately lifting the ball over Picaud-Inconnu in the 66th minute. The goal was Seike’s fourth of the season.
Emily Murphy appeared to have added a fourth late on, but her effort was ruled out for offside as Brighton comfortably saw out the victory.
West Ham struggled to create clear opportunities throughout the contest, failing to register a shot on target until stoppage time in the first half.
Their best chance fell to striker Viviane Asseyi, who headed wide after goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie had parried Leila Wandeler’s long-range attempt.
Symonds was named Player of the Match following her influential performance, with her spectacular opener setting the tone for Brighton’s afternoon.
The result lifted Brighton four places to eighth in the Women’s Super League table, while West Ham dropped to 12th after suffering their fifth defeat in seven matches.
Chelsea come from behind to beat Crystal Palace
The visitors fell behind in the 20th minute when former Tottenham defender Molly Bartrip finished at the far post from Fuka Tsunoda’s pass.
It was the first time Chelsea had trailed in the league this season, but Sonia Bompastor’s side responded after the interval.
Republic of Ireland captain Katie McCabe played a key role in the equaliser, with her throw-in setting up Melvine Malard to fire home a powerful finish.
Malard then completed the turnaround with a header from Sandy Baltimore’s cross, putting Chelsea in front.
Baltimore added a third from the penalty spot in the 90th minute to secure the victory and send Chelsea above Manchester City on goal difference.
For newly promoted Palace, the defeat came despite a promising start, as Chelsea’s second-half response proved decisive.
London City Lionesses held by Liverpool
Liverpool took an early lead through Beata Olson’s penalty before Freya Godfrey equalised for the visitors in the 22nd minute.
London City moved ahead before half-time when Kadidiatou Diani capitalised on a wayward header back towards the Liverpool goalkeeper from Alejandra Bernabe.
The visitors looked set to leave with all three points until Jana Fernandez turned Cornelia Kapocs’ cross into her own net in the closing moments.
The result kept London City in third place, although the late equaliser denied them the opportunity to close the gap on the teams above.
Aston Villa edge Everton in five-goal contest
Aston Villa moved level on points with Everton after earning a 3-2 victory at Goodison Park.
Noelle Maritz opened the scoring for Villa before Amalia Vangsgaard struck twice to give the visitors a commanding three-goal advantage.
Everton responded with two late goals to make the closing stages tense, but Villa held on to secure the win.
The result brought Villa level with Everton on points and gave them a valuable boost as the league campaign continued.
Birmingham City claim first league win
Wilma Leidhammar scored midway through the second half to settle the contest and secure three important points for Birmingham.
The result offered a welcome lift for the newly promoted side as they looked to build momentum in the top flight.
Manchester United hold Manchester City in derby draw
City looked on course to maintain their perfect start to the Women’s Super League season after Khadija Shaw gave them the lead.
However, Terland struck late to earn United a share of the points and deny their local rivals another victory.
The result also had significant implications at the top of the table. City dropped from first place, with Chelsea moving above them on goal difference following their victory over Crystal Palace.
United climbed to fourth, five points behind London City Lionesses in third, as their improved form under head coach Eva Olid continued.
The draw provided a competitive conclusion to the weekend, with both sides enjoying periods of dominance in a closely contested encounter.
Chelsea lead the way after eventful weekend
Chelsea finished the weekend at the top of the Women’s Super League table after their comeback victory over Crystal Palace, moving above Manchester City on goal difference.
City dropped points for the first time in the league this season, while Manchester United extended their unbeaten run and climbed to fourth.
Arsenal’s north London derby win and Brighton’s convincing performance against West Ham also provided important results, while London City Lionesses were forced to settle for a point against Liverpool.
With Aston Villa winning at Everton and Birmingham claiming their first league victory, the weekend brought movement across the table as the Women’s Super League campaign continued.
