With its 2026-27 fixture list now out, the FA Women’s National League has confirmed an August 16 kickoff. The opening weekend will offer an early indication of how the promoted clubs measure up against established Tier 3 and Tier 4 clubs.
With 10 new clubs entering the league this term, the fixture release this morning has now given every team across the six divisions a first opponent. The League Cup schedule was confirmed alongside it.
When Does The FA Women's National League 2026-27 Season Start?
Tier 3 and Tier 4 clubs will begin together on Sunday, August 16, giving the FA WNL a single start date across its top two levels this season. They won't finish together, though. Tier 4 sides end their campaign on April 25, while Tier 3 clubs play on for another week before concluding on May 2.
Ten new teams are joining the league this season, more than we’ve seen in quite a while. Wycombe Wanderers and Torquay United both come into Division 1 South West, and they meet in the opening round.
Six clubs are up into Tier 4 this year, Thornaby, Chesterfield, Lye Town, Dartford, Saltdean United and Stevenage. They arrive from the regional feeder divisions, but promotion brings a different test: stronger opposition, longer journeys and little time to adjust.
Opening Weekend Fixtures To Watch
Fulham’s rise continues in the Southern Premier Division, where they open against Portsmouth after back-to-back promotions to Tier 3 as reigning Division 1 South East champions.
Portsmouth is a tough opening opponent. The south coast side still has full-time professional status heading into the season, which gives it a resource edge that Fulham’s academy-built squad has not yet had to deal with at this level.
Bristol Rovers host Bridgwater United in Division 1 South West, with the fixture carrying extra weight for Meg Jarvis. She returns to the club where she finished as top scorer, scoring 17 goals in 19 appearances before moving to Bridgwater in December.
Jarvis has already made an impact at her new club, scoring twice on her debut against Worthing United. Speaking to SheKicks about settling in, she said: "Supporters and staff have been really welcoming."
Bristol Rovers and Bridgwater finished third and fourth respectively in Division 1 South West last season, so Sunday’s meeting doubles as an early marker for both clubs in the race for Tier 3 football.
FA Women's National League Cup Schedule Confirmed
The FA WNL Cup group stage runs from Tuesday 25 August to Sunday 27 September before the competition switches to a straight knockout format.
Round One, along with the Plate competition for teams eliminated in the groups, is scheduled for Sunday 1 November, giving those clubs another opportunity to compete for silverware.
The knockout schedule runs through the winter, with Round Two on 20 December, the quarter-finals on 31 January and the semi-finals on 14 February.
The FA has yet to confirm a date for the final. For clubs such as Wycombe, Torquay and the six sides promoted to Tier 4, the WNL Cup offers an early chance to test themselves against unfamiliar opponents before the league season settles into its usual pattern.
