Chelsea wonderkid Mahdi Nicoll-Jazuli has done more than rub shoulders so far, catching the eye of new manager Xabi Alonso on the club's Australia tour.
The 16-year-old is an Australian native, having been born in London to an Australian mother, and he was at the centre of Alonso's press conference ahead of facing Western Sydney Wanderers at the Accor Stadium on Tuesday.
Alonso was full of praise for the youngster, whose pre-season showings have thrust him firmly into the manager's thinking for the future.

Chelsea manager Xabi Alonso expressed his surprise upon learning that teenage sensation Mahdi Nicoll-Jazuli was born in Australia, where the team is set to play two friendlies.
The 16-year-old is one of seven players in the 27-man squad on tour who are currently enrolled in the club's academy.
Alonso spoke to global media alongside defender Levi Colwill ahead of the Sydney Super Cup game, praising Nicoll-Jazuli.
The Spanish tactician singled out the young midfielder, who is among the club's scholars for the 2026-27 season, for a glowing review.
"I was informed yesterday that he was born in Sydney so it was a surprise, but he is one of those talented players that come from the academy," Alonso said.
"Really impressed with him, with other ones, but Mahdi he's a talent that we need to help, we need to develop because he has special qualities that you don't see that often from a 16-year-old guy."

Nicoll-Jazuli made his UEFA Youth League debut at 15 years old in the 2025-26 season, becoming the youngest player to start a game for Chelsea's U-19 team in the competition.
He was only promoted to the U-18 squad last summer and spent the season bouncing between the U-18s, U-19s, and U-21s.
He impressed so much in training that both Enzo Maresca and his successor Liam Rosenior called him to train with the first-team players on a number of occasions.
Nicoll-Jazuli is an excellent midfielder who is capable of playing in all three midfield positions, and Alonso remarked on his technical ability.
"No he has great dynamism, he has quality, very complete player and he can pass short, he can dribble in the middle, so he has made a good impression so far."
The Athletic reported last month that Nicoll-Jazuli has agreed to sign his first professional contract with Chelsea once he turns 17 in January 2027.
The youngster, who is eligible for England, France, Australia, and Sudan, was targeted by a number of clubs from within and outside England, but is set to commit his future to Stamford Bridge.
With Andrey Santos joining Manchester United and both Moises Caicedo and Enzo Fernandez yet to join the team in Australia, Nicoll-Jazuli may be trusted to make his senior debut in Sydney.
The youngster appeared in two behind-closed-doors friendlies against Crawley Town and Bromley before the squad left for Australia last week.
