Bayern Munich legend Thomas Muller is reportedly set to become part-owner of Liga Portugal side Estrela Amadora alongside former Bayern teammates Mats Hummels and Yann Sommer, as well as a group of investors.

According to German newspaper BILD, "Muller, Hummels, Sommer as well as a group of investors are planning to take over Estrela Amadora."

The consortium is reportedly aiming to establish Estrela Amadora as a top-eight club in Portugal while creating an environment that nurtures and develops promising young talent.

The Tricolours currently compete in Portugal's top flight but have flirted with relegation in each of their three seasons since earning promotion to the Primeira Liga in 2023.

The club also has a remarkable recent history. The original Estrela Amadora folded after declaring bankruptcy in 2011 before being re-established as a phoenix club in 2020.

Since then, the club has enjoyed an impressive rise back to the Primeira Liga. Now, the Bayern trio will likely inherit the task of turning Amadora from relegation battlers into top-eight contenders.

How Bayern's Influence Could Shape Estrela Amadora

With Muller, Hummels and Sommer serving as the faces of the consortium, it is clear that the Bayern Munich influence could play a significant role in Estrela Amadora's operations if and when the takeover is completed.

One sign of that influence may already have emerged. On Thursday, July 16, Bayern youngster and Croatia Under-21 international Lovro Zvonarek joined the Portuguese club for an undisclosed fee, potentially providing an early indication of how the two clubs could develop a close working relationship.

The consortium is led by Bayern legend Muller, the club's record appearance holder with 756 matches across 17 seasons. The "Raumdeuter" (interpreter of space) currently plays for Vancouver Whitecaps in MLS, while Hummels retired in 2025 and Sommer continues his career with Club Brugge.

Despite being among the most recognisable figures in European football for nearly two decades, this would mark the first move into football club ownership for Muller, Hummels and Sommer.

Why Estrela Amadora's Youth Project Appeals To The Consortium

An interesting element of the Tricolours squad is the youthfulness within the team. Last season, only two players over the age of 27 featured in their league campaign, highlighting the club's reliance on young talent.

Furthermore, Estrela Amadora's academy already holds a four-star certification from the Portuguese Football Federation, placing it among the stronger youth development structures in the division.

While below the elite academies of Portuguese giants such as Benfica, Sporting CP and FC Porto, the rating highlights the club's commitment to youth development. For Muller and his fellow investors, that foundation may have been a contributing factor in starting this venture.

Although it is too soon to suggest a direct partnership between the clubs, the takeover could help establish a closer working relationship between the two sides, with both potentially benefiting from increased cooperation.
