A Striver poll on X found that most football fans have no intention of watching World Cup third-place play-off between England and France, even with both sides still having something to play for. The result shows a clear tilt rather than a landslide.

Viewers seem more inclined to skip this one than watch it. England and France kick off at 5 pm ET, 9 pm GMT, at Miami Stadium, with Kylian Mbappe and Harry Kane leading two teams that were expected to be preparing for Sunday’s final instead.

What Striver's Poll Revealed

The split was clear once the votes came in: 60.7 per cent chose “Nope, no point,” while 39.3 per cent selected “Yeah, of course,” out of 28 total responses since the poll went live on Friday. It’s a small sample, but it leans decisively toward disinterest in the match.

That vote count came against 1,358 views on the post itself, which suggests many fans saw the question but chose not to vote either way. That fits a familiar pattern for a fixture that a lot of supporters tend to dismiss before it even kicks off.

Why Even The Players Are Struggling To Embrace The Match

England manager Thomas Tuchel gave the clearest explanation for that fan sentiment himself. "Nobody of England's players, nobody of the French players want to play in this match," he said. "They want to play in the final."

France boss Didier Deschamps struck a similar note while still framing the game as worth contesting. "We're not where we wanted or expected to be," he said. "The disappointment matches our ambitions, but we have to accept it. We have no other choice."

Today also marks the final match of Deschamps' 14-year spell in charge of France, giving his own side at least one motivation beyond the result itself.

Why England Vs France Still Matters

The Golden Boot race gives fans an extra reason to tune in despite the fixture's reputation. Mbappe is level with Lionel Messi on eight goals, while Kane and teammate Jude Bellingham trail by two on six. History offers England little encouragement in the third-place play-off.

The Three Lions have lost both of their previous appearances, falling to hosts Italy in 1990 and Belgium in 2018.

For a match even its own players admit nobody wanted to play, today still carries just enough on the line for both sides to walk away with more than a wasted afternoon in Miami.
