Manchester United are reportedly interested in Marcus Tavernier after his impressive start to the season, but Bournemouth are determined to keep hold of one of their most important players.
The 27-year-old has enjoyed an excellent start to the 2026/27 campaign, attracting attention from several Premier League clubs following his performances for the Cherries.
His form has reportedly caught the eye of Manchester United, who are continuing to assess potential additions to their squad.
However, Bournemouth are determined to protect their investment, with former Manchester United chief scout Mick Brown revealing just how strongly the club feel about keeping Tavernier.
Bournemouth determined to resist Manchester United interest
Tavernier has scored five goals in eight Premier League appearances this season, including a goal against Manchester United at Old Trafford.
His performances have placed him firmly on the radar of several top-flight clubs, but Bournemouth have no intention of making it easy for interested sides to secure his signature.
Speaking to Football Insider, Brown explained that the Cherries view Tavernier as an important part of their long-term plans.
"There's no doubt Marcus Tavernier has been outstanding for Bournemouth this season," Brown said.
"I first watched him when he was playing for Middlesbrough and thought he was a very impressive player, but he has gone to another level in the last year or so."
Brown added that Bournemouth are aware of the growing interest but remain determined to keep the midfielder.
"As far as they are concerned, though, he is not for sale and they'll be doing everything in their power to make sure they don't lose him."
The former scout also pointed to Bournemouth's recent departures as a reason why the club are keen to retain their key players.
"Bournemouth have lost multiple key players over the last couple of seasons, and if they want to continue making progress, they have to make sure they keep them at the club."
Could Manchester United make a move for Tavernier?
Manchester United have reportedly been monitoring Tavernier for some time, with Football Insider previously revealing that the club were keeping a close eye on his performances.
The Red Devils are understood to be considering ways to strengthen their midfield and attacking options, with Tavernier's versatility and consistency making him an attractive potential target.
Everton were also linked with the midfielder during the summer transfer window, but Bournemouth were reportedly unwilling to sanction his departure.
That stance appears to remain unchanged, despite the possibility of interest from a club of Manchester United's stature.
Brown believes the Cherries could face a difficult challenge if bigger clubs make formal approaches, but insists they will not willingly allow Tavernier to leave.
"I can't see them entertaining offers for Tavernier, and it might be difficult if these big clubs make moves for him, but they are not going to be open to letting him go."
For Manchester United, that could make any potential move complicated. Tavernier's performances have strengthened his reputation, but Bournemouth's determination to keep him suggests the Red Devils may have to look elsewhere if they cannot persuade the Cherries to change their position.
For now, there is no indication that a formal offer has been made, but Tavernier's form looks set to keep him on the radar of Premier League rivals.
