Paris Saint-Germain may reportedly face competition from Liverpool for Barcelona midfielder Gavi whom Luis Enrique has asked his higher-ups to bring to the Parc des Princes.
The PSG head coach knows the 22-year-old from their time together with the Spain national team and has reportedly asked the club's hierarchy to explore a deal for the next transfer window.
Liverpool have also been linked with Gavi, with Fichajes reporting that the Premier League club sees him as a potential option for next summer.
What PSG are reported to be considering for Gavi
Enrique asked PSG's hierarchy to make contact with Barcelona over a possible deal for Gavi. He is said to value the midfielder's pressing, intensity, and ability to play in different midfield roles.
A fee of around €40m has been mentioned as a possible figure, although the report points to a potential approach and not to an offer.
Barca would have a strong negotiating position. Gavi signed a contract extension announced in January 2025, keeping him at the club until 30 June 2030. PSG have also recruited from the Catalan club in recent years.
Ferran Torres joined the Parisians in August on a contract running until 2031, for a reported €50m. Enrique also coached Torres with Spain.
Gavi has previously spoken about his commitment to Barcelona. Ahead of Spain's Nations League semi-final against France in June 2025, he said:
“My dream and my mentality is to spend my entire career at Barcelona.”
Why Gavi’s minutes at Barcelona have dropped
Gavi had played 191 minutes in seven appearances through 28 October, across Barcelona's 13 official matches in LaLiga and the Champions League. He started two games, including a 61-minute outing against Getafe.
He was an unused substitute in El Clásico, which Barcelona lost 2–1. It was the first Clásico he had missed out on playing in since his debut.
The squad around him also changed over the summer. Barcelona signed Rodri from Manchester City on 18 August on a contract running until 2030, while Pedri, Marc Bernal and Fermín López are all part of the midfield rotation.
Frenkie de Jong has also returned to contention. A knee problem cost Gavi two matches early in the campaign. Flick addressed the issue at a press conference in September. He said:
“But we need everyone, and we have to manage and distribute the minutes.”
Spain manager Luis de la Fuente left Gavi out of his squad in September. Flick said in mid-October that Gavi had been disappointed about missing the call-up but had remained professional and trained well.
How Liverpool and Mac Allister fit into the Gavi story
Fichajes reports that Liverpool are considering Gavi as a possible replacement for Alexis Mac Allister in the summer of 2027. The speculation is linked to Mac Allister's situation.
His Liverpool contract runs until 2028, and in September he said he was “very sad” that the club had not offered him new terms. Liverpool manager Andoni Iraola has described him as an important player.
Gavi's next opportunities to address questions over his playing time come in Barcelona's upcoming matches against Aston Villa in the Champions League and Atlético Madrid in LaLiga.
