Manchester United, Arsenal and Chelsea reportedly sent scouts to watch Aleksey Batrakov during Galatasaray’s 2-0 Champions League win over VfB Stuttgart on 3 November.
TEAMtalk reports that representatives from all three Premier League clubs were in Istanbul, where the 21-year-old Russian scored both goals. Batrakov has now scored four times in four Champions League appearances this season, putting himself on the radar of several clubs.
Galatasaray signed him from Lokomotiv Moscow for €25m in August, but a reported £50m release clause could give interested clubs a chance to sign him.
Here are five things Manchester United should know about the midfielder.
5. Batrakov is an attacking midfielder, not a holding player
Batrakov is a 21-year-old Russian attacking midfielder who is most comfortable playing as a No. 10. He can also feature in central midfield or in wider attacking roles.
He joined Galatasaray from Lokomotiv Moscow on 20 August 2026 and has quickly become an important part of their attack. His technical ability, vision, passing, and creativity give Manchester United a clear idea of the type of player he is.
Batrakov is not a traditional defensive midfielder. His strength lies in creating chances, finding space between the lines, and getting into scoring positions.
His ability to play in different attacking roles could also appeal to clubs looking for more creativity in midfield, rather than a direct replacement for a holding player.
4. His Champions League form explains the scouting interest
Batrakov showed what he can do against Stuttgart, scoring in the 12th and 15th minutes to help Galatasaray secure a 2-0 win.
The brace also made him the first player in Galatasaray’s history to score twice in the opening 15 minutes of a Champions League match. His overall European record has been just as impressive.
UEFA records four goals in four Champions League appearances this season, with 284 minutes played and an 84% passing accuracy.
3. His Lokomotiv form shows this is more than one good European night
Batrakov arrived at Galatasaray with a strong record in Russian football. Before leaving Lokomotiv Moscow, he had become one of the club’s most productive attacking players.
Galatasaray’s official profile records 29 goals and 18 assists in 66 Russian Premier League appearances for Lokomotiv. He also scored 17 goals and provided 12 assists in 36 official matches during the previous season.
Those numbers suggest his Champions League form is not just a sudden burst of goals.
His move to Galatasaray has also made it easier for Premier League clubs to pursue him. TEAMtalk reports that UK government restrictions on direct transfers from Russian clubs had made it harder to sign him before he moved to Turkey.
His move to Istanbul has given interested clubs another way to bring him to England.
2. The reported £50m figure is a release clause, not a confirmed transfer fee
TEAMtalk reports that Batrakov’s Galatasaray contract includes a release clause believed to be worth around £50m. That figure is not a confirmed transfer fee, however. Galatasaray have not officially disclosed the clause’s value or the conditions attached to it.
Some later transfer reports have put the figure at around €60m, which is roughly in line with the £50m estimate. Neither amount has been confirmed by the club. Galatasaray have, however, revealed the details of the deal that brought him from Lokomotiv.
1. A January move looks unlikely, but 2027 could be the realistic option
Despite growing interest from Premier League clubs, TEAMtalk reports that Galatasaray do not expect Batrakov to leave in January. The Turkish champions want to keep the midfielder and are reportedly considering opening talks over a new contract.
One option could be an improved deal that removes the release clause and gives the club more control over his future. For Manchester United, the scouting interest looks more like early transfer planning than a sign that a deal is close.
Batrakov is under contract until 2031, and Galatasaray have good reasons to keep him. A move in 2027 looks more realistic, but it would depend on the player’s wishes, the terms of the release clause, and whether Galatasaray are willing to let him go.
His next Champions League game is against Aston Villa on 24 November. Another strong performance in Europe could bring even more attention to a player who has made an impressive start in Turkey.
