Liam Delap delivered a superb performance on Saturday with two goals as Nottingham Forest overcame Manchester City with a 3-1 win in the Premier League.

Delap doubled the hosts' lead in the first-half and he added the match-winning goal in the 73rd minute after Rayan Cherki pulled one back for City.

The English forward saw 87 minutes of action in the encounter and he was replaced by Igor Jesus in the closing stages,

Delap has now scored three goals in nine league games this season as Nottingham Forest bagged their second league win of the season.

Ex-Premier League stars praise Delap's impact

Former Premier League players Alan Smith and Jamie Redknapp have showered praise on Delap for his man-of-the-match display at the City Ground.

Smith described Saturday's performance as the best moment of Delap's career after he joined the club from Chelsea in the summer.

The former Manchester United star told Sky Sports: "The moment of his career, absolutely spectacular and he started it as Forest go from back to front - what a strike, unstoppable and with his weaker left.

"And just at a time when it looked like City were going to grab an equaliser."

Meanwhile, former Liverpool and Tottenham midfielder Jamie Redknapp expressed his happiness for the former Manchester City forward.

He highlighted how Delap's physcial qualities contributed to Forest's dominance in the attack.

Redknapp said: "Delap was so strong and aggressive. He had a real battle and a fight.

"He takes the pressure off because everyone can get up the pitch. I'm delighted for him. I hope it's a moment he can really build on."

With Saturday's defeat, Manchester City have now conceded three consecutive losses in the Premier League but still remain in second place while Forest climb to 16th position in the table.

Delap happy to overturn Forest goalscoring woes

Delap expressed his delight after helping Oliver Glasner's team grab their first Premier League victory since September 12.

The 23-year-old said Saturday's win was a reward for Forest's consistent performance with improvement in their clinicality in front of goal.

Prior to the win, Nottingham Forest were the only team with the least goals scored in the Premier League (six goals) this season.

"It has been coming, we have been performing like that every week, we could not put them in the net, but today we did to make everyone happy," Delap told Sky Sports.

"We did everything right, got the three points, so we are going to be happy going into the international break.

"I just wanted to run and shoot and luckily when I get there, it went in the net [his first goal].

"It gave us a little breathing room [his second goal]. It's always tough playing City, you're running after them for 90 minutes so we knew it was going to be a battle.

"It was a perfect ball from Morgan [Gibbs-White], he's set up a lot this season that we've not been able to convert so thankfully we could put it in the net."
