The quarter-final stage of the 2026 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup in Morocco reached a dramatic conclusion across the Mohammed VI Football Complex in Rabat.
Two-time reigning champions North Korea delivered a statement performance to eliminate the USA, Japan broke a long-standing last-eight curse by edging Ghana, Brazil mounted a second-half rally to beat China, and Nigeria struck late against Venezuela to complete the semi-final lineup.
With the final four officially confirmed, North Korea will lock horns with Japan in an all-Asian semi-final, while Nigeria take on Brazil for a place in the final.
Striver.Football recaps all the quarter-final action that took place on Sunday:
North Korea 3–0 USA
In a blockbuster quarter-final clash on Pitch 2, two-time defending champions North Korea gave a terrifying reminder of their title ambitions by sweeping aside the United States.
USA goalkeeper Avellina Saunders kept her side in the contest early on, pulling off a world-class save to deny Yu Jong-hyang’s point-blank header before thwarting her again from the penalty spot. However, the pressure eventually told in the 30th minute when Ri Ui-gyong drilled a low strike home to open the scoring.
Just before half-time, Ri Ye-rim doubled the advantage with a brilliant solo effort, tiptoeing through the US penalty box before firing past Saunders.
Ri Ui-gyong put the tie beyond reach in the 56th minute, connecting with Kim Won-sim's cross to smash home her 5th goal of Morocco 2026 (and 8th overall across tournament editions).
Ghana 0–1 Japan
Japan finally shattered their quarter-final hoodoo on Pitch 1, advancing to the semi-finals for the first time since 2016 after four consecutive last-eight exits in previous editions.
Following a grueling, defense-heavy first half, Japan broke through in the 54th minute. Yuka Kishida's initial attempt ricocheted into the path of Nanami Kurita, who made no mistake in slotting home from close range.
Player of the Match Fuki Ito controlled the tempo in central midfield as Japan contained Ghana's physical counter-attacks to secure a memorable 1-0 victory and book an all-Asian semi-final against Korea.
China PR 1–2 Brazil
Brazil punched their ticket to the semi-finals following an explosive second-half fightback against China PR on Pitch 3.
China PR took a deserved lead in the 42nd minute through a moment of individual brilliance by Wu Yichen, who sprinted past Sarah Coelho and lashed a powerful drive into the top-right corner.
However, Brazil responded just 42 seconds after the second-half restart when Greise Kelly laid the ball off for Helena to equalize. Helena struck again in the 87th minute, arriving at the back post to convert another Greise Kelly delivery and seal a hard-fought 2-1 win.
Nigeria 1–0 Venezuela
A dramatic late penalty on Pitch 4 carried Nigeria past Venezuela and into the semi-finals for only the second time in the nation's history.
After dominating first-half possession without translating chances into goals—with Oluebube Umejiaku and Oluwakemi Adegbuyi firing wide—the match appeared destined for a penalty shootout.
The breakthrough came in the 89th minute when Venezuela defender Migleydys Bolsegui committed a foul in the box. Azeezat Oduntan stepped up and coolly dispatched the spot-kick into the corner to send the Flamingos through to face Brazil.
