Xabi Alonso inherited a dressing room packed with talent but short on available places, making departures a priority before he can fully reshape the squad. According to The Mirror, up to 11 players could leave before the September 1 deadline.

Which Chelsea Players Could Leave This Summer?

    1. Enzo Fernandez leads the list by value. Chelsea want £120 million for him, more than the £106 million they paid Benfica in January 2023, and despite the size of that fee, interest from European clubs has not cooled.
    2. Nicolas Jackson is another player Chelsea are prepared to cash in on, with the club valuing the striker at around £65 million. Aston Villa have emerged as the strongest suitors after losing Morgan Rogers to Stamford Bridge earlier this summer.
    3. Pedro Neto is another name on the list despite Chelsea's appreciation for his contributions. The Portugal winger has been linked with a £70 million exit, and with Quenda now signed and capable of covering similar positions, the club's need to keep Neto has reduced.
    4. Filip Jørgensen is expected to leave after submitting a transfer request. The goalkeeper lost his place following Mike Penders' return from loan and is unwilling to remain as Chelsea's third-choice option.
    5. Gabriel Slonina is the most surprising case on the list. Chelsea paid £10 million for him four years ago. He has made zero senior appearances. He has been training with Strasbourg ahead of what appears to be a certain exit, either on loan or permanently.
    6. Liam Delap is also expected to leave after a frustrating first season following his £30 million move from Ipswich Town. Chelsea are looking to make a profit on the deal, limiting the number of clubs able to meet their asking price.
    7. Trevoh Chalobah is agreeing a deal with Como worth around £30+ million, including add-ons. Fabrizio Romano reports the defender is eager for a fresh challenge in Serie A and the chance to play Champions League football under Cesc Fabregas.
    8. Benoit Badiashile could soon join Chalobah in leaving Stamford Bridge. Napoli are close to agreeing a loan deal with an option to buy worth around £30 million.
    9. Axel Disasi is expected to leave in this summer's transfer window, and Chelsea is willing to consider offers in the region of £25 million.
    10. Malo Gusto is another surprising name on Chelsea's list. The club would consider selling the right-back for around £75 million.
    11. David Datro Fofana rounds out the list. Chelsea have been trying to move him on for years and are now willing to accept as little as £3 million.

Why Chelsea Are Planning a Major Summer Clearout

The Blues finished 10th in the Premier League last season, that was their worst result since Todd Boehly's £1.5 billion takeover in 2022. That finish cost the previous manager his job and handed Xabi Alonso the rebuild.

After spending £117m for Morgan Rogers, a two-year deal for 35-year-old Danny Welbeck. Chelsea are no longer buying young talent and hoping it develops.

They are buying players who can perform now. From observation, Alonso's system at Bayer Leverkusen was built on high-press, positional discipline, and technical precision.

Several players currently on Chelsea's sale list don't fit that model, not because they are bad footballers, but because they don't suit how Alonso wants his team to operate. The fees paid for them are irrelevant to that decision.

What Happens If Chelsea Can't Sell These Players Before Deadline Day?

Any player still at Chelsea after that date stays until January at the earliest, which means Alonso would be working with a larger, more expensive squad than he wants for the first half of the season. The Blues have been here before.

In previous transfer windows, players expected to leave in the summer were still at the club by the time autumn arrived because no one matched Chelsea's valuation. That could happen again. Asking £120m for Fernandez, £70m for Neto and £65m for Jackson means negotiations are unlikely to move quickly.

Chelsea's business this summer has been the busiest of any Premier League club. The manager is in place, and the players they want to keep are known. The difficult part now is finding buyers for the players who no longer fit the plan.
